This looks interesting. Not federated or anything, but the general ethos seems in line with the Fediverse.
There’s also a self-hosted alternative in form of https://faircamp.org/ for those interested
Mirlo, which is similar to subvert, but a worker owned thing rather than a cooperative are dipping their toe into federation with more planned I think:
“…If you want your artist profile to be follow-able from other websites, you can now “Enable The Social Web” and people can subscribe to your feed from other places. With support from our NLNet funding we’ve finally enabled the ActivityPub standard integration on our site, so that people across the internet will be able to follow your artist account…”
Great to see so many open source ethical alternatives popping up.
Hm…
The fact that they are able to list all artists on a scrollable page speaks for the amount of artists on there.Neat thing but very niche. Even more than bandcamp and not many indies I follow are even posting on that :/
Hope they (subvert as well as bandcamp) will become bigger in the future.
Gonna bookmark it for sure :)Upvoting mainly for the exotic sight of a diaeresis outside the New Yorker.
A definite touch of class. Bravo.
As a fellow diaeresis user I concur.
Been snagging some albums and I really like how the platform cut is optional.
Let’s be a bit cynical and devils advocate:
How will they finance the marketplace if no one will give off a cut to the platform and everything to the artist?IMO the bandcamp day is the better compromise, but maybe increase the days (because I think they are a monthly thing, right?) to 2-4 times a month instead.
Not monthly with Bandcamp, sadly.
I suppose they could make a mandatory minimum if they needed to. It’ll be interesting to see the numbers from this “donation” model first though. From the sounds of it the amount of paid staff sounds pretty minimal.
Heyyy I’m on this
As an artist? If so, do you have a link?
You’re too kind. No just a fan. Happy to have something like bandcamp that isn’t
Þe site uses Vercel to “verify” my browser, which fails. I’m running Firefox.
Þe web just keeps getting more shitty and inaccessible, doesn’t it?
