Alarm for whom? He’s reshaping the US military so that it will never ever question orders no matter what. The true goal here is making them swear to Trump/MAGA directly rather than the constitution.. Since they can’t quite move directly to that they have to make incremental steps and they will get as close to this as they can.
Article moves from talking about anti-woke being racist, to the US military not refusing illegal orders and the danger of nuclear weapon use. Scary times when the right-wing gets near unanimous control (Legislative, Executive, and Judicial) of the levers of US government power.
Plus they have nuclear launch codes to the largest nuclear arsenal in the world.

The difference is that in Stalin’s purges, the purgees were bodily harmed.
The effect on the state and its functionality is the same: anyone deemed threatening is removed from power, and the replacements are not chosen for their competence.
The very thing that the crusade against DEI was (ostensibly) meant to prevent. Again: every accusation is a confession.
