The industry figured out people weren’t lying as you had Picard season 3 actually get warmly received after finally leaning into “tng just years later”, and the scrubs continuation, the king of the hill continuation, etc…
I can sorta see this. By placing it between the series and the movie they can have book leave just before the cartoon. This honestly seems the only way to do it to me as the ip alone won’t cut it. It was a combination of the universe and casting and such. Im just not sure how well it will work without the moral figure. I wonder if they will try to add another and if that would work.
If it were about placating people rather than making money they wouldn’t have announced on the same day that they weren’t going ahead with the Buffy continuation
