They will have you believe the only two options are: a) Keep the DoE exactly as it is b) Shred the whole org

It’s a false dilemma. It could be overhauled instead of eliminated. The citizenry of the US has grown so foolish that some people will actually defend this as a great move!

I don’t find it as interesting that the DoE is being dismantled. I am more interested in what will replace it. In this case, I think it’ll be a bunch of hand-waving, like “states will step in”. Sure, but what about the grant monies the DoE used to provide? I guess that’ll just appear out of nowhere?

It’s only bizarre until you realize this isn’t a failure of the system. This is a success for the people getting the payout. They have lobbied and deeply infiltrated the government. The US government doesn’t serve the citizenry anymore. It serves the rich and powerful. The rest of us are just useful as consumers to funnel money to the corporations.

Don’t worry, I’m sure there will be a huge government bailout that the people have no say in. Remember 2008? I don’t remember voting to give away piles of money to the bankers.

You know what Iceland did when there was suspicious investing and they had bank failures? They put the bankers in jail! What did we do? We gave them a bonus!

God bless America, because we’ll need it!

Don’t worry guys, even though Donald Trump promised to get consumer costs under control on DAY ONE he still has huge throngs of apologists saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” “You think you can fix this much stuff Biden broke so quickly?” “Actually, things ARE fixed already!”

For a con-man to flourish, he requires a steady stream of gullible people. Our country has a surplus and more are being manufactured every day. You might say ignorance is our #1 export.

Yeah, except it fundamentally changes the situation under discussion. Turns out he had his feet on the seat NOT that the woman wanted him to move to the back. Totally different.

Aha, there you go. I don’t think anyone should put their feet on the seat, but I also wouldn’t alert the police about this.

I can tell why he seemed to leave that bit out of the story. His story is a lot less sympathetic if you frame it as:

“I was sitting on the train and had my feet up on a seat. I refused to take my feet off the seat, so she complained to the conductor. Then ??? and I was getting arrested.”

People with their feet on the seats really bothers me. It’s extra crass if the train was full and he wouldn’t move his feet, but I am not sure if this was a packed car or not. Either way, it’s disrespectful to have your feet on the seat in public transit, and I’d be curious what his exact language was when refusing. Definitely not an arrest-able offense, but this guy sounds like a jerk. I hope we get to see bodycams at one point.

What is your source for this? Even the quote from above says “how” he was sitting, not “where”. Did someone else have better coverage?

How does one sit “offensively” on a train? All the coverage of this seems to just skip over that. Was he sitting with no pants? Laying across 3 seats? This is a novel one for me.

The openness of Android is the thing that kept me on the platform. Now that the openness is being removed, iOS is now more appealing.

Sadly, I think most of the customers that use Android never sideload a single app at all. I don’t expect this to create a mass exodus, but a smaller one with power users.

This will only be effective so long because gradually apps will require greater and greater API levels. Staying stuck in the past is, at best, a temporary solution.

If those other sources make more money and get more viewers, why did it start on YouTube?

$$$ that’s why. YouTube gives the greatest return. If they post to multiple platforms, not only is it more work, but they then also subtract from the number of views they get on YouTube. It’s all about the $$$.
