I know eveything in France is not sunshine and rainbows, but come on, cheap high speed internet, fantastic pedestrian infrastructure, great social welfare program, and now linux being adopted by the government?
France seems pretty cool to me

And this is why I use an android based ereader. Something as simple as displaying words on a screen shouldn’t be held back by the will of any company.

Thats the kicker. I really want to move away from Youtube. Many are fine with just blocking ads, but its not rocket science to host a video over the internet.
Peertube seems like it can one day be great, but its currently just not popular enough, and its sad, because everyone talks about ditching google, except when it comes to youtube.

would WPA3 and pre-shared keys not be enough? If every endpoint is scanning for malware, using host based firewalls, monitoring access logs and activity, it could be possible no?

You know, i think i might learn how to set up ad hoc networks to prepare for this sort of thing. I know its essentially wartime there now, but without internet, its harder to transmit the truth from the eyes of the civilians. Fucking sucks whats happening there. Repressive government, but filled with people who simply want a life free of the conflict, the endless battles, various ethnic groups simply wanting freedom from those who have invaded and partitioned their people.
This cant end well. . .

Yes, because I won’t be using their distribution.

fuck the authority, chaining down anything digital because the law is far behind the relative breakneck speed of technological progress.

I agree, and neither do I have all the answers. It is worth exploring, I’m just pessimistic most of the time.

Broad? Is youtube not social? Facebook? Tik-tok? Forums like reddit or lemmy, where people communicate directly, abiding by social norms and etiquette?
The internet and it’s myriads of networks is all information relayed globally via copper, fibre and radio waves. Never did I say that the internet itself is a social network.

55% of any message is conveyed through nonverbal elements (facial expressions, gestures, posture, etc).
Crazy how social media is seen as this thing that we somehow have a beneficial relationship with in such a short period of time. Impossible. The brain hasn’t changed much in the past thousands of years.

excellent take, I never thought of regulation on something digital like an algorithm (concerning social media) to be, I guess, possible when some government officials barely understand what an IP address is.
But that’s the thing, where’s the motivation for this board of experts to exist coming from? There is already plenty of empirical evidence to support the claims of the harms of social media, but in spite of this, change is glacial.
That is why I just generalize and say that social media is the problem, because most people won’t care to hear anything deeper. They are already addicted, and don’t care for a cure.

It’s so bonkers how most of the older generations agree that being on the internet cannot make you social, yet became the default method to communicate.
Ban it for everyone? I mean, lemmy itself is a social network platform, if you want it to be. But I know what you mean: social media being the most used platforms, Google, Facebook, Tik-Tok, etc . . . And for that, yeah, I do agree with a full ban. We need a cultural reset, where we aren’t being fed sensationalist bullshit and pure brainrot as entertainment via an algorithm trained on our insufficient capacity to regulate our attention.

I never really understood the problem with banking apps, can’t people just use the website instead? At least with banks I’ve used, most daily tasks are possible to do online.

Literally why I’m here. Some bullshit in their bot detection flagged me as a bot, and disabled my account, that I had for 7 years.

I find myself playing more and more graphically simple games, like schedule 1, crosscode, jackbox, etc. . . And there are many others. I was worried that my pc would be too weak for gaming, but man, there are so many fun games that dont need photorealistic graphics to run. Even NFS 2015 looks great, and isnt hard to run.

I agree, this is not going to be the final straw for most developers, but I, and others, will never use android again after this.
I moved away from Microsoft because I don’t need a digital overseer policing my usage of the system. Android is moving in that direction, and so will I move, towards freedom.

when that happens, I’ll build my own ISO with that part stripped out, or just move away from systemd
