  • No, they don’t. I love technology for its entertainment and educational benefits, but it’s horrible that this kid is so familiar with screens that they don’t understand you can’t zoom a book. Screens don’t allow one to feel textures, see depth, or manipulate objects in space, among other vital educational activities. Young brains need to be stimulated by real-world phenomena in order to develop properly. Our children deserve better.

  • Maybe they’ve changed something since I last tried getting help via Discord, but I found the search feature extremely lacking. I never have trouble finding someone else with my same question/problem, but there’s no means of viewing replies to the message in question, or even whether anyone replied at all. One is required to manually browse potential hours or days of messages in the hope of following a conversation chain that might not even exist. This is made even worse by the fact that replies to a message aren’t necessarily registered as replies because they’re just subsequent chat messages.

  • I don’t know how difficult the right-wingers have made it to move here in recent years, but Sweden has pretty great trans healthcare. The wait times can be annoying, but are lightning fast compared to the shit I hear from the UK and US, and everything is paid for collectively. It should go especially smoothly if you’re coming in with a diagnosis and prescriptions already from home.

Nearly everyone is capable of speaking English to accommodate the array of international people here, and there are dedicated courses for foreigners to learn Swedish from beginner level through high school. These courses are paid for collectively and can even earn you money through the CSN program which helps alleviate financial burdens while studying.

It’s kind of nuts how generally trans-positive the public is. When I went to get my ID with my new name the cop who handed it to me was really excited and happy for me. It’s not something I was expecting based on the general transphobia of the world.
