I would like to move away from using spotify for music. Are there any torrenting sites where I can torrent music with high quality audio (~320kbps) tagged properly?

I strongly suggest to always tag your own music. I think expecting to always finding every album tagged to your own (or you media center’s) specifications and preferences in one place is a fantasy. At least it’s one that I’ve given up on more than a decade ago. Your music will always come from multiple different sources and I don’t think there is (or ever can be) one golden goose.

So yeah, +1 for Musicbrainz Picard. I’ll throw in Puddletag for small manual corrections.

Excellent thinking! You can of course directly transition into discussions about things like basic income and the requirements of society to cater to the basic needs of all its members before anything like economic growth can even be allowed, but it might be more useful to ask the following questions:

1. If we removed all art - all paintings, all books, all music, all movies, all games, all installations, that were not commercially produced or commercially produced at a loss - from existence, wouldn’t that still leave more than could ever be consumed in hundreds of human lifetimes? And if so, why do we even need commercial art?
2. Or more nuanced: How much commercial art does the world need?

Because once you answer that question you know roughly how much public funds to allocate to art production. Depending on who you ask the answer might even be zero or close to zero.

Immediately go for the jugular and question the very existence of intellectual property as a concept.

It would be strange if we were having a big national conversation about limiting YouTube watching or never buying books or avoiding uploading more than 30 photos to social media at once for the sake of the climate.

… but I’m certainly a bit amused over how often the author just stumbles into a natural segue to an anti-consumerism rant and then just… takes a U-turn 🤦

Possibly? I have to admit, I’m probably just misunderstanding the usecase. I have plenty of multi-language content available in my libraries, but that’s all solved via different audiotracks and subtitles embedded in the files themselves, not via separate libraries.

In addition to the usual Movies/Series/Music (I don’t see a reason to uncouple Anime from other series) I have two additional libraries: “Stage” (for theatre productions, musicals, opera and other concerts) and “Youtube” (which is linked to a local copy of all my subscriptions and playlists, provided by Pinchflat). I also used to have a “Music Videos” library, but curating that proved too cumbersome to be worth it.

You unfortunately can’t teach something like this to someone who doesn’t even understand the consequences of it. Or care.

You can absolutely explain it and teach it and make people care. It’s just not easy. I’ve only ever encountered uninformed “I have nothing to hide”-responses to equally lackluster throwaway explanations . It’s a very difficult and abstract topic, it doesn’t come naturally! Don’t treat privacy concerns as equivalent to pointing out dirt on someone’s clothes, treat it like calculus. Successfully conveying it requires time, conversation and didactics.
