Different revisions. They’ve released K1C (with different parts in some places) after K1, but they didn’t do an official refresh for Max (which got some of the upgrades like new nozzle) silently. And there were at least a few extruder revisions in between.

I’ve done a similar thing using IKEA Samla Box (fits 6 rolls). With a few boxes of silica gel (dried periodically in my filament dryer) I can get it to stay relatively dry for a few weeks (goes from ~15 to ~25% in a few weeks).

Helper script (2nd link) is easier to use. simple AF (first link) is fully open source, but requires you to use another bed leveling probe - no open source „driver” for prtouch- the built in one (which is slow and not terribly accurate anyway).
There are some companies that violate GPL. Guess what happens to them? Nothing (unfortunately).
Check your z-offset, it looks like nozzle may be scraping the bed. With very minimal bed leveling issues this will cause big problems. Try moving the nozzle a bit further away.
