  • … Isn’t the turkey at the White House Thanksgiving dinner… ceremonially pardoned?

Like its kind of an ongoing joke?

I mean, I would not put it past these people to kill it, just because they can, but… eh …?

Anyway yes its very stupid to get mad over a somewhat unflattering photo.

Almost no one looks good from this kind of angle, and… anyone who knows anything about photography would know that, and thus not really care that much?

    Its a goofy picture.

I guess the White House is the no fun allowed zone.

    sigh

  • He was from a right wing religious nutter family… he’s from Utah, this is extremely common there, they’re called Mormons…

But, at the same time, he was clearly very much questioning and rebelling against elements of that lifestyle.

I was / am a person not dissimilar to Robinson in at least broad strokes; from a crazy Christian upbringing, began to realize its a toxic, bigotted and factually dubious way of life and worldview as I got to high school and beyond.

Its not broadly accurate to call him a crazy right wing nutter, nor is it broadly accurate to call him a far left gay/trans/furry.

  • At 150 yards/meters, its something like a 5.56 carries ~950 ft/lbs of force, a 30-06 carries ~2200 ft/lbs of force.

Then you have a significant chunk of the bullet itself lodged in Kirk’s shoulder/collarbone.

That’s possible if a 5.56 from a different angle went through much of his neck and broke apart in his body.

But if a 30-06 hit his shoulder/collarbone from front on, that bone would have exploded.

If a 30-06 hit his throat/neck from the front, missing the spinal column… it would have blown off, yeah, a chunk of flesh between the size of a fist, an apple, an orange, a grapefruit… and the bullet would not have left a signifigant chunk of itself embedded in the shoulder/collarbone, because it would have just gone straight through the throat/neck.

  • Religion and Science conflict because they make irreconcilably different claims about reality, and have fundamentally different epistemologies.

They disagree as to what truth is and how it can be determined.

Religious people who cannot find the ‘faith’ to ‘believe’ in Science are people who have been brainwashed into religious extremism, which shapes their entire worldview and acts as their default mode of understanding reality.

These are people who would rather kill all the Scientists as heretics, as they have often done throughout history.

Their answer would be that Science will not go on if they… destroy all non-religious education, throw the Scientists into jail, or just kill them.

  • omfg, BlueSky continues to just knock it out of the park.

    Incredible.

It was like less than a week or two ago I was trying to explain that BlueSky is just rainbow capitalism, that is centralized, and will censor you, just give it time.

A year ago some goober was extremely convinced that it was totally possible and not actually that difficult to set up your own Relay, so, it actually is federated and decentralized the same way Lemmy or Mastadon are!

Year later, nobody has gotten around to doing it.

And now it has a hallucinatory theft powered autocomplete machine… that… ostensibly exists… to… manage their feeds.

Because apparently that is so complex or difficult that it… needs an assistant?

And this was made by a former member of the board who apparently just left so that he could focus in his side project, which is totally different from BlueSky, but also only works with BlueSky.

    Just chef’s kiss, mwah.

We need a ‘Fell for it Again’ meme variant for turbolibs.

There’s 0 difference between TwitterBrains and RedditMods.

Well ok, TwitterBrains are better at scamming people, at least they’re getting paid.

    … I miss Tom.

    Just bring back MySpace ‘Classic’.

  • It is completely insane to me that basically no one in major media is discussing this:

Ok, so say we somehow get the Tripoli and Boxer up close enough to Kharg or anywhere else such that they can actually deploy LCACs and LAVs and ACVs in an amphib assault.

… Awesome, there are now 500 to 5000 Shahed drones en route to blow them all up while they are motoring to the LZ.

… what is the fucking counter to this?

Literally none of those things have anti-drone capabilities.

What, are we going to screen an amphib assault with… AH 1Zs and F18s and F35s… shooting down all the drones?

Cool, then a significant proportion of those get shot down too.

Our doctrine is so based on the concept of aerial supremacy that we seem to have just forgotten how to conceptualize not having it.

You do not have aerial supremacy if the enemy can launch aircraft/drones and missiles against your assets.

Its a similar problem with an aerial / air cav style assault… Ospreys or other choppers doing advance insertions, or the 82nd jumping out of C130s…

… They’d all be a shooting gallery for the shorter range drones and missiles that Iran has tons of, that we are not able to premptively destroy.

And if anything manages to land or come ashore… the same problem remains.

Even NeoCon think tanks that have been pushing for the US to fuck up Iran for 20+ years are frantically writing reports trying to explain how stupid the current apparent ‘strategy’ is.

Its like we are trying to fuck up harder than Gallipoli.
