Wait, I’m so confused, what’s your definition of a systems language?

Wait, I’m so confused, what’s your definition of a systems language?

Wait, what? How? It compiles down to bare metal without a runtime. People write OSes and program microcontrollers with it. For any arbitrary C program, it’s possible to write Rust code such that it compiles down to the same bytecode. Am I missing something?

The “official” line is that he mentioned personal information about the ICE officer who killed Renee Good in his criticism, which they are forcefully misconstruing as doxxing/incitement to harass. Which all completely falls apart when you consider the information was already reported on by major news outlets and completely public/part-and-parcel of tens of thousands of similar posts. But our government is made of shameless knuckle-draggers, so here we are.

Yeah, this comes across as admitting to a small thing to try and avoid consequences for the big thing. If we’re already in a place where we’re talking about a man with a life of elicit affairs while spending time around a child sex trafficker, it is absurdly unbelievable that at no point did those wires get crossed or that he was unaware of what he was getting himself into.

No, the head of the snake getting crushed is what its taken for most regimes like these get stopped throughout history.

I think they mean heat-canning/jarring, which sterilizes it and destroys a lot of the probiotics in it to make it shelf-stable. Room temp sauerkraut is still good for you, just not as good as the less-processed stuff that requires refrigeration.

to the last.
I know you didn’t mean it this way, but sounds ominous.

An actual boulder of similar size could be 3-5 tons and would’ve resulted in the death of everyone involved

Ladybird I follow since it’s an entirely new browser engine and can help restore a little democracy to the web, but why Floorp? I’m looking through its website and it seems to be a more customizable Firefox, which is nice, but doesn’t seem particularly revolutionary (and forks of Chromium/Firefox are kinda a dime a dozen).

I jumped in to the Win11 beta and really liked it, they finally got most of the control panel into the new settings architecture and I never once had to dig deep into things to adjust something small, a lot of stuff that took finagling just worked.
And now I fucking hate it. The release version is jammed so full of bullshit features and useless AI junk that it is an active hindrance to whatever I’m trying to do. And more and more stupid fucking bugs bubble up in to the desktop and never get addressed, all while I get pop up after pop up urging me to try some bullshit new feature.
I already had one foot into Linux with my desktop but kept this because it was a Surface and nice at some point, but my next buy has to be a Linux 2-in-1, I can’t deal with Microsoft’s horseshit any longer.
I do want to emphasize that for the moments that it was unadulterated by rent-seeking, the new Win11 actually was kinda great.

Really, Matt? Nothing else, like how you went scorched-earth on WPEngine and caught a lot of people in the crossfire and destroyed a lot of goodwill in the process? Nothing comes to mind?

ICE has a purpose but the existing organization now has rot to the core and needs to be fully razed to the ground and rebuilt or replaced with a different organization. Any continuation of any existing project or individual’s employment there is the equivalent of trying to find the good people in the brownshirts. They’ll just lie until they get the chance to abuse and torture people to their heart’s content again.

Thanks armchair political activist. We’ll stop being armchair political activists 🫡

So let me buy a goddamn phone that I can install what I want in it. Again, I do not give a shit about any phone manufacturers that want to make a walled garden out of their Android installations. I agree, it’s perfect for the grandmas of the world. But Google is forcibly doing this to every goddamn phone, phone manufacturer, and Android enthusiast.
The only silver lining is that whenever Google decides that unregulated social media services like Lemmy are not family-safe I won’t have to listen to your malicious horseshit.

That’s twice that you’ve missed the point that everyone else is saying. Read it again:
without me nor the developer having to kiss the ring of Google or by extension the regulators (EU with Chat Control) that they are beholden to
Google is irreversibly designating themselves the sole arbiter of what apps can be freely installed in the formerly-open Android ecosystem. It’s the same as if they just one day decided that Chromium-based browsers would require sites have a signature from Google and Google alone. I honestly don’t give a shit if they did it just on Pixel devices, but they’re doing it to the phones of ALL manufacturers by looping it into Play services.
I just don’t understand: why the fuck are you so pussy-whipped by Google that you’re stanning their blatant power grabs?

Bruh, you’re trying to sanewash this of all things? Right now I can go to any third-party app store and click install on an app without me nor the developer having to kiss the ring of Google or by extension the regulators (EU with Chat Control) that they are beholden to.
After this I’ll have to fucking install Google’s SDK on my computer, manually download application files, and deploy them to my device over USB with CLI commands. I will never ever ever be able to get friends and family access to third-party applications after this change.
And fuck, man, there’s not even a guarantee this solution will last, either. Google promised they would allow on-device sideloading back when they started adding deeper and deeper settings restrictions on enabling sideloaded app support, their word means fuck-all and you know that.

Not only that but *broad gestures at society and the state of the world post-Internet*

LOL. LMAO, even. Хорошая попытка, idiot.

Fascist scum. Taking away people’s right to vote? I hope there’s a second tree, God got it right on that one. 🌳
Yeah, but not all administrative work is for Nazi Germany, that’s his point. Unicef has a website, not sure I could confidently call their engineers Nazis.
