I look at “all” and sort posts by new comments - Lemmy moves a bit slower than reddit, and posts will get new comments over the course of a whole day if there’s traction. I block comms and instances I’m less interested in.

Nah, you see comments from most instances, since Lemmy.ml federates with most instances. A user from .world can’t see my comment, as an example, since their instance defederated mine.

Part of this is a misunderstanding of how communities work - C/technology in lemmygrad or hexbear will be explicitly political. Those instances are political. .
There are like 15 different C/memes in the Fediverse, and many of them include a political component.
Also life is political. The media and topics you think are not political are very much political – they just reinforce the status quo.
