Sounds to me like your swap is to small. I had similar behaviour on two systems. One with 8gb of ram and one with 16 gb.

Turn these biters of or set them to peaceful mode. I bought the game in beta and disliked the biters, like you i just wanted to build in my own pace. Some years ago i heard about the option of peacefull mode and got hooked so hard to this game.

A friend of mine was still on win7 and just recently made the switch to linux. In the end the issue was that most of the software stopped working.

Subjectivr experience against another. I switched an peer group from skype to matrix when matrix went offline. It was way better than i would have expected. Perhaps the timing was better. The element client seems really good, beside some minor jank(like screen share doesn’t work) that was probably waylands fault, its a very good experience.
