Growing up in a small town, this is exactly what we did. I was absolutely shocked to learn that people ride bikes ON THE ROAD! Right next to the big metal death machines!! 😱
I see why bikes on the road make sense for high density areas… but it sure seems weird in smaller towns.

I’m glad I deleted my accounts years ago. I don’t have loss aversion from leaving them. I don’t know what I’m missing, I guess, and that’s good.
I’m not giving Google anymore money. I’m actively going to vote for their competitor, Motorola+GrapheneOS.

I’ve been wandering the laptop desert for a few years now. Lenovo, Dell, System76, Framework, StarLabs.
I’m currently on a Dell Pro 13, but the keyboard really sucks and the hardware isn’t fully Linux compatible.
StarLabs had keyboard issues and terrible battery life.
Framework seems like Linux was an after thought. Their HiDPI display isn’t fully Linux compatible.
I recently got my parents an X13 and everything just works. Camera, Bluetooth, graphics, display. All good.
I prefer 13in screens, but I’ll take the repairability of the T14 gen 7!

you can’t truly use Signal’s new “username” feature. If any of the recipients have your number stored in their phonebook, irrespective of whether you know them or not, the username goes for a toss.
Hm. I haven’t interacted with a new Signal user in a while… but I do see in settings two knobs: “who can see my phone number” and “who can find me with my phone number”. Both of these settings can be set to “nobody”.
I’m guessing if I set “who can find me with my phone number” to “nobody”, then even if someone has my phone number in their contacts, they wouldn’t know I’m a Signal user?

Luckily, Signal does give you the option to completely ignore it. I only see it mentioned in the settings and I have not enabled it.
Same with stories, you can enable/disable them. Although, if I want to convince my normies friends to look at Signal using stories probably helps that. 🤷
Amazon is a hard one to find an alternative to. Mostly what I try to do now is buy directly from the brand. But they don’t always have their own website.
Other times I can find the item locally. I’ll buy it even if it costs a little more.
Also, sometimes the item is only available at Amazon or Home Depot online, for example. In that case, I’ll pick Home Depot cuz they’re a slightly smaller megacorp.
As a very last resort, I’ll will begrudgingly buy from Amazon. Like if the item is only on Amazon or if the item is significantly cheaper there…
But, fuck Amazon Prime! That’s a total scam. I canceled that years ago and never looked back.

Unfortunately, Google and Apple have crippled PWAs. Surprise, surprise. They don’t get the attention, features, or bug fixes native apps get.
But also, a lot of apps are just views into websites anyway. So I bet a lot of apps could just be PWAs.
The main hurdle is getting people to install the PWAs instead of apps. It’s a different install flow.

Yeah, I’m not buying any more Pixels. I got the Fairphone 6! It’s good! I’m in the US, so I got it from Clove. Works fine on T-Mobile.
Although, I’m currently running Android… Probably have to install e/OS or something.
I hope Fairphone can continue to grow to eventually meet Graphene’s hardware requirements.
Gah. I was really torn between replacing my broken Pixel with another Pixel+GOS or buying a Fairphone 6…
I ended up going with the Fairphone 6 cuz I want to support other players. I’m not completely off Google, but I keep moving away where I can.

Yeah, this is what I do. Sometimes I show up and the place is closed. I wasted 30 minutes driving there. It’s annoying. But, not so annoying that I want to use FB. (For me personally. I understand people have different tolerances.)
