Honestly that’s not a bad idea, but take it a bit further. Publicly list ANY business that is found to provide services to ice. They stay at Hilton, add Hilton to the list, they eat at Denny’s, add Denny’s to the list, ect.

Their business is B2B now. Nadella is focused on that, gaming is a nice side business to him, and the home user wasn’t profitable enough to care about keeping.
Right now my fortune 500 employer is all in on Microsoft, they pay for around 200,000 Microsoft business licenses and about 2/3’s of those PCs also have a 365 business license, plus they have Microsoft servers with their own individual licenses in every state and almost every country. And that’s just one company, think about how many companies are all in on Microsoft and you can see why B2B is what he cares about.

He’s generating profit, that’s all that matters to the shareholders.

It’s ok, it’s real…now just tell me about the bunnies.

Indeed good sir, that would be quite comical.

ZorinOS is a decent stepping stone for those coming from windows. It was my first Linux daily driver when I made the switch. It got me comfortable enough with Linux to dive in and start learning before I started distro hopping. I ended up on Mint and now just recommend that, but Zorin got me over the hump to become a full time Linux user.
Might be fun to make a live USB and see how much it’s changed in the last ten years. I’ve got a 4 day weekend coming up… might have to try that.

I work for a fortune 500 and we have a Linux program. It’s still in the testing phase, but it is being tested.

My mom is a retired nursing instructor, I’ve picked up a few things over the years. This is going to be fun when a HIPA violation occurs via MS A.I.
Honestly any industry where you see confidential information or proprietary information, could pose a massive threat to customers. Just knowing how much of a product your competitors are shipping to a location can tell you a lot of what they are planning.

Traffic spikes, on the Internet? One in a million chance! Now tow cloudflare outside the environment and call it a day.
When someone is switching from windows to Linux the first distro I recommend is Linux Mint. Mint feels similar enough to Win7 that any windows user can drop in and learn it in no time, my, tech illiterate, 76 year old mother has been trying a Mint live USB and has needed very little help.
I say start with Mint and get to know Linux, then if you want to try other distros you can, but at least you’ll have a solid foundation to jump off from.
What ever you choose, welcome to Linux!

This message brought to you by capitalism.
It’s no different than an industry self regulating and then miraculously never finding anything wrong doing.

I have friends and family with good eyesight and they can tell a difference. Sadly even with Recent prescription lenses I still can’t see a difference. Eh, at least I can save on TV’s since 1080p is cheaper.

I’m dead tired and can’t think of a way to say this without sounding arrogant, seriously my brain is fried right now, so I’ll just say I take that as a compliment and thank you.

My guess, the CFO showed that using AWS saves the company a few cents to a fraction of a cent per what ever unit they measure by. Those few cents to a fraction of a cent add up when multiplied by the millions or hundreds of millions of units and that savings makes the CEO look like they are more profitable and can give shareholders more profit.
When everything is about the quarterly results and the need to always show growth so the board and shareholders don’t fire you, you’ll cut corners and take the risk, as long as it has the potential to make you look good.

I’m sorry Dave, I can’t do that.

Yep, I ran Mint on a system 76 laptop for 8 years. Just retired it because the hardware is starting to give out, the OS is still running strong.

Nice username, lol.
Agreed, I wasn’t even looking for the Win 7 experience, I was just still getting the hang of Linux and Mint was repeatedly recommended everywhere I looked. At this point I’m just comfortable with Mint and so I stick with it, and since I value reliability of cutting edge, it gives me what I need in a computer.

Coming up on 10 years since I switched from windows to Linux. I tried Ubuntu and absolutely hated it, so much so that I switched back to windows at first. But I kept reading and tried ZorinOS, and that got me comfortable with Linux, it was a little buggy but I could understand it.
After a few months with ZorinOS I switched to Linux Mint and have been running Mint for 9 years. Recently my 76 year old mother who has trouble with some basic computer stuff said she’d like to try Linux and asked me to help her, I made a live USB of Mint for her to try and she told me “I can understand this, it’s like windows 7!”. If she can get Mint, I feel totally confident recommending it to new users.

Same, I made the switch about 9 years ago when I was self-employed. Then I took a job with a small company running windows and it sucked. Now I’m 6 years in with my current, a mega corp, and they are all in on Microsoft. I’ve been so aggravated with the limitations of Microsoft products when I could get things done with a FOSS product in no time. Of course IT blocks FOSS installs because of corporate policy…🤬
Oh the irony of that 80’s commercial…
