It is theatrics. They know they’ve already got literally the entire userbase on their server, so none of this actually matters.
When Bluesky inevitably enshittifies, they take the whole network down with them.

BlueSky pays lip service to federation, but they’ve set it up so that they’ve got effective control of 99% of the network. It’s a sham to convince people they’re different from every other corporate-owned social media platform, but it really isn’t.

No idea, but I’m assuming probably not.

Here’s my whole library if you want to see everything I like. Some notable exclusives:

I miss my old Motorola Droid 2. I don’t need a thinner phone, give me that slider form factor.

I’m in favor of IP law reform, but you’re going after the wrong targets. Complaining about rereleases won’t get new legislation passed.

So then what do you want?

I know the economy sucks and we’re all struggling. I’m in those shoes too. If you pirate games because you can’t afford them, that’s valid and I won’t look down on you for it.
But I think it’s wack as hell if you do look down on people who want to support official releases. It’s a good thing for content to be available officially. What is it that you even want them to do, not release anything? What are you upset about?

I know what community we’re in, but I do think that having content be available through legitimate channels is a good thing. Too much of gaming history cannot be accessed legitimately, and that’s something that genuinely sucks.
There’s an old saying that piracy is a service problem, and here they are trying to respond by offering a better service. Many of these compilations are actually pretty good in terms of extras offered, they go above and beyond just selling you a ROM.
I want to see The Year of the Linux Desktop™ as much as anyone else on this platform, but I think you’re living in a bubble if you believe there’s any universe in which this could suddenly dethrone Windows.
It’ll carve out a good niche for itself, but that’s really all it will be.

Ephebophile (noun): A pedophile with a thesaurus.
I don’t think they even can manufacture at a scale anywhere close to the big three. Like with the Steam Deck, it’ll be a great product for a niche audience, but the numbers will be limited in comparison. No chance of taking over the industry.

As a journalist she did it to see what would happen. And then wrote an article about what happened. This is definitely worth talking about even if she did click the box, the box isn’t really the point here.

Since it’s only October, it’s already more than once a day.

I hate that Discord has taken over most communities and put them in a place unindexed by search engines. I hate it so much.
But this is where users all go in Current Year, and I don’t blame game developers for following the crowd. Especially for smaller multiplayer games, if you want to sustain an active community you’ve gotta have that #matchmaking channel for players to organize.
Also, tbh, Steam Forums ain’t great either. At least they’re searchable, but that’s all that can be said about them. In my experience they’ve often devolved into the most toxic hellholes due to Valve’s lack of moderation. Also not ideal for anything multiplatform, that only covers Steam users.
The other alternative is reddit, but, well, I’m here because I refuse to ever go back to reddit, so, y’know.

I wonder which shooting the media will spend more time talking about.

The average person is not informed enough to even be aware of the problems with AI. Look at how aggressively AI is being marketed, and realize that this marketing works.

How does that analogy make any sense? No one has done anything malicious to him. He released open source software, got mad and revoked the open source license for newer versions, then got even more mad when people continued using the old open source version. Which is a problem he brought on himself. And his continued tantrums still won’t keep distros from packaging the only version they even can package.
They’re gonna tell you this is the only way to be sure that routers don’t contain a backdoor. They’re gonna tell themselves this is the only way to be sure that routers do contain a backdoor.
