Will talk about Linux, plants, space, retro games, and anything else I find interesting.
Also mesa@piefed.social over on Piefed.

You can say suicide on the fediverse unlike other platforms.
It’s terrible what ss is doing.

I found out via a matrix channel lol. Its almost never used except by some close friends so its nice we have a backup.

And its gone.
Roll tide.

True and computers in general just became 2x priced in the US.
The US going to see major smuggling from Canada/Mexico I bet.
Or California will get their own deals lol. And then all the countries major businesses will have to have a presence in California. Now that would be ironic!

Yep the most repairable devices will be ones that we have a lot of not the ones we can get replacements as a majority of the replacements come from tarrifed countries.
Fair phone, framework, and others that are repairable will actually be in a semi bad part where getting a replacement may be more expensive to procure or outright decide to stop distribution because of the logistics hell.
Been using it for years. It works perfectly and has the same consistent interface for longer than office products now.

Yep agreed. I guess I just had a misconception at first.

Thats fair. Any good ones that have come out in the last month or so?

The only “issue” I have with libre is its essentially a full pull of Firefox nightly with some rust patches on top. Its reliant on Firefox, so its not really a “new” browser per-say.
That being said, I use it everyday :) Its an excellent project.

Yeah Im not sure as well. Vivaldi didnt really impress me when I tried it out.
I put this article up since we still have a lot of people thinking about different browsers as of 2025. Its interesting to see how people use the internet.

Neither, deleted my 13+ year account.

Looks like its down slightly too.

Its an interesting field! I think the reason we have not gone there is the LLM specific models all have very different models/languages/etc… right now. So the algorithms that create them and use them need flexibility. GPUs are very flexible with what they can do with multiprocessing.
But in 5 years (or less) time, I can see a black box kinda system that can run 1000x+ speed that will make GPU LLMs obsolete. All the new GPU farm places that are popping up will have a rude awakening lol.

It would be ironic if businesses come back to California because of the tariffs.

I wonder how much we really need for a clock (555 eq) to work?

Meh I like some of the others on hugging face a bit more for coding and such. But its all the same at the end of the day. I do like what you are saying though!
Models + moderate power should be what we strive for. I’m hoping for a star trek ending where we live in a post scarcity world. Im planing on a post apocalypse haha.
Once ASIC chips come out (essentially a specific model on a chip) the amount of power we use will be dramatically less.

Yep you can run models without giving $$ to tech billionaires!
Now we are giving it to the power billionaires! unless you own your own power sources.

Yeah best we have right now is subscribing to the lemmy/piefed communities like /c/peertube and seeing what you like. For better or for worse, there is no algorithm. Moreso in peertube than others.
This is arguably bigger news than the stock market.
