Is anyone surprised? Maybe the surprising part is that she’s still alive and only got fired.

Indeed, CSAM no-doubt:
Tens of thousands of explicit AI-generated images, including AI-generated child sexual abuse material, were left open and accessible to anyone on the internet, according to new research seen by WIRED. An open database belonging to an AI image-generation firm contained more than 95,000 records, including some prompt data and images of celebrities such as Ariana Grande, the Kardashians, and Beyoncé de-aged to look like children.
Yes! I had the exact same thought after I got my Steam Deck and started using Arch again about a year ago. I remember it being clunky and awful, but now it’s so smooth and simple.
Granted I don’t do anything crazy, I pretty much just load a clip, SHIFT+R at a few time stamps, and render a new file. Maybe add a dissolve or fade. There wasn’t really much that could even do this simple stuff well before KDEnlive beefed up, at least not that I used.

It’s a really interesting thought, and under ideal circumstances would work IMO. Obviously things are never ideal and there would be all sorts of roadblocks and gotchas as something like this was developed. Things we could think of now, and other things we probably couldn’t. Not to mention the whole problem of, “who develops it and how much trust can you give them?”
As I was reading the idea, it made me think of the suits from A Scanner Darkly that the undercover narcs wore. Basically heavily obfuscated the voice and displayed always-changing patchwork human features to anyone observing from the outside, including trying to hide body shape. Something like that could get similar results. Obviously a video filter would be much easier to develop than a sci-fi suit, but still.

This has been, and will probably continue to be, and ongoing issue. Google is working hard to block VPN and Data Center IPs at a network level when using their API. Usually we get patches within days when an episode like this flairs up, but some times that also triggers even more action from Google to change their methods. Usually it’s an issue with the underlying libraries being used like yt-dlp, youtube.js, or invidious API; meaning all YT circumvention apps get affected at the same time (e.g., FreeTube uses Invidious API).
Constant cat and mouse game. I usually try FreeTube first, if that fails I’ll try 2 Invidious instances that usually work well (one self-hosted, the other inv.nadeko.net), then I try Grayjay, and failing all of that I’m just not watching the video right now.
ETA: nadeko added a note about it to the top of their site, so FT is definitely broken because of Invidious/Google
Their note:
Youtube changed something again, so if a video does not play, it’s because of that.
ETA2: lmao, another public invidious instance shows this and doesn’t even load the app:
Maintenance. Invidious broke completely. Come back later.

I really, really don’t understand how people see LLMs as the only options for stuff like this…
Literally, written language and even typewriters have been a part of human history for a relatively long amount of time compared to how long simple computers have been a part of human history. I wonder if OP is very young and part of a generation that doesn’t even know what landlines are.

What are you even using GPT for? Is it literally just dictating your thoughts into typed words? There are so money speech-to-text things out there that are not AI… On a cursory search for something: https://fosspost.org/open-source-speech-recognition#Top_Open_Source_STTTTS_Systems
If you feel bad about it, then stop using it, period. Life isn’t easy, and the way that modern society tries to make convenience the number one goal is a crock of shit. Plan to put effort into your life, you will 1) get more out of it and 2) be less unprepared when situations arise. As a start, maybe practice typing while you talk and dictate your own thoughts into an offline app like Notepad++ or LibreOffice. You’ll have the exact same, identical end-result, except you will have done it all using your own abilities. Remember, the typewriter existed long before the computer, and certainly much longer than LLMs. Even Speech-to-Text systems have existed much longer than LLMs…
Or just do like you mentioned, fully embrace wilful ignorance and suppress whatever makes you feel uneasy about using GPT. Eventually, you’ll condition yourself into a perfect crop.
Either way, you need to pick a side and lean into it. Being in a tormented limbo will only make everything much worse.

Sick! Thanks for coming back around with the links. I was going to add to z-lib, but evidently they don’t hoard DICT files, oh well.

Torrents and Archive.org are the best ways I think. A third option would be to also upload to Z-Library.
All 3 for maximum redundancy. If you get a torrent going and don’t want to make a z-lib account, I can upload it there for you. Either way, I’d love to help you seed and spread all these datas.

I got my Kobo eReader literally days ago, phew

Unfortunately, nothing. Always comes from different instances for me. Whack-a-mole

It’s so hot, imgur is at capacity and only returns json

From my experience, almost everything fails except for one combo: Amazon + United Kingdom. This combo has been flawless every single time, no failures, even when all others fail in the same session.
That being said, the downloaded audio format is hardly consistent. I’ll download a whole album, and half will be in FLAC, the other half in OPUS. Not a big deal with ffmpeg available, but still weird.

It’s kind of a moot point if you’re in the USA. There are only 3 companies that actually own and operate cell towers: ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile. I’m speaking in terms of privacy, not coverage or quality.
Any other company just leases usage of the towers from one of them.
Then you have T-Mobile that gobbled up a bunch of smaller companies and kept the names to trick you into thinking it’s a different company (kinda like Nestle and their local bottled water companies). T-Mobile also owns Sprint and MetroPCS.

They understand this 100%

Just because something is developed in the USA does not mean it will follow authoritarianism. These projects are open source, and many USA based open source projects are fighting back against this stuff. Besides, the internet is the internet, and these open source projects will live on beyond any USA law. This is the very point of the licensing. Having said that, I do agree with you on the RHEL/Fedora side of things.
I’m not sure about the Debian legal ties, I’ll have to look further into that since you didn’t give me anything to reference. Still, the key point here is open source, which means you can review the source code and security experts will, too. Signal is also a USA based company; France and Sweden are trying to force backdoors on them, yet Signal has vehemently said, “No. Fuck Off.” So, clearly it’s not just the USA doing shitty things.
I get that the current political situation in this shithole country is absolutely horrifying, but that does not immediately mean that the entire population of the country is with the fascists by default. Starlink being used for election purpose should be the number one red flag indicator that the citizens of the USA did not actually vote for what’s happening and it was manipulated. Because of the fascist playbook and money, it is difficult for the proletariat to do much without seriously violent actions.
I just don’t agree with your sentiment on this US jurisdiction idea when it comes to open source, non-profit projects. And to be clear, it’s OK that we might disagree. I’m just providing discourse with a healthy dose of skepticism.

jurisdiction in the US, which means a lot of Linux distros are not an option anymore.
Please elaborate and provide some receipts to what you mean.
I know your list is what you use, my list is more data for you to DYOR and find even better, privacy respecting alternatives than what you suggested. As you say, do whatever you think is best.

Thanks for coming back around about it. Still, I agree with you and consider it a red flag, it is antithetical for a privacy person that claims to support FOSS.
I agree with you. One possible way to rectify the meme is to change “determined by” to “adapting to” or something along those lines. I think that’s what the meme is actually trying to say, but used the wrong words.
