I think having a progress bar for project 2025 is a bit disingenuous. There has a been a ton of damage to NIH, but that site says nothing has happened to NIH yet.

SSDs are getting crazy cheap.
If you need 10tb of storage, you could get 2x used 10tb hdds in raid 1 for $200, but 6x used 2tb nvme in raid 5 is only $600 and 100x faster. Both take up the same amount of space.

SMR is designed for enterprise raid that is SMR-aware.
I’m not aware of any open-source zoned storage raid but I think Ceph is planning to add support next month.

A repairable phone is the most important thing. I could buy a used flagship, but the battery will be trashed. I used to buy a phone every 2 years but now I just buy a battery every 2 years. I can use my phone knowing that if anything breaks I can have a replacement part in within a week, and I don’t have to spend 100€s to ship it to some repair shop in a different part of the country.
Fairphone 4 and 5 are also the only smartphones certified by the Swedish unions: https://tcocertified.com/product-finder/index?category=Smartphones

I mean that the EU wants 0 for 0.
The EU averages 2% tariffs and Trump just imposed 10-35% tariffs on the entire EU, and the European Commission just cancelled the one tariff package it managed to pass in the European Council, the one that was directly in response to the US’s25% tariff that is currently in force. Trump did not cancel this tariff, but we canceled the counter-tariff to it. It’s one thing to be open for negotiations, but we’re turning the other cheek here.

Trump didn’t pause the tariffs, he just decided to do 10% instead of 20%. (actually 35% on steel and cars now)
No backing down until we get 0 for 0.

No replacement mines will be running before at least 2026

Remind me how Colorado is a border state again? Airports don’t count.

Arresting people for criticizing authority is horrible, but the Trump administration doesn’t really have the moral high ground here considering how they have been disappearing people for their free speech recently.
“We continue to urge Trumpist authorities to respect freedom of expression and to ensure that laws are not used to stifle permitted expression. As a treaty ally of USA, we will closely monitor this issue and advocate for the fair treatment of Fabian Schmidt,” - Europe probably

SFP is the modern standard for pluggable laser modules. RJ45 sfp modules exist, but only for 1G and 10G. There’s also DAC cables for sfp, but those are limited to 2-3m, and the point was to focus on the benefits of fiber. Maybe the economies of scale necessitate some modern silicon photonics like a fiber on package option, but then you have repairability issues.
The minimum bend radius is mostly because of complete internal reflection, fiber is very flexible, and it’s not really possible to break an armored fiber cable by hand. You do have to worry about dust on the ends, though.
Toslink is cool, but it’s a very low bandwidth standard, less than 1gbit. You need proper glass fiber and lasers for high bandwidth.

yeah, I guess tvs and receivers would come with active optical cables to make it simpler, but the main thing is that optical is much cheaper and faster than copper once you get the economies of scale down on the transceivers. 1 terabit over 100km, down a cable thinner than a USB cable, is no problem with the right lasers. Meanwhile, I have interference and patent issues at 0.02tbps on hdmi cables less than a meter long.
Plenty of cheap optical HDMI cables out there, but they have compatibility issues. It would be so much easier with standard mmf mpo or SMF lc cables.
apalrd did review a unique product recently that embeds a mmf transceiver into the existing HDMI for factor, though.

Imagine putting out a new high bandwidth cable standard in 2025 based on copper.
The sooner display and networking move to SFP, the better.

Displayport and hdmi are either twisted pair or coaxial I think. Low frequency RF from 50hz AC shouldn’t interfere with them, but high frequency changes in current on a power wire will.

Yeah housing can be tricky, especially in Stockholm. There is the Stockholm bostadsförmedlingen, which is good to join if you’re a resident, but queue times are completely unrealistic. 10+ years for the nicer neighborhoods. There are a number of student apartments on there though that might be easier to apply for.
I highly recommend the apartments in Bergshamra and Lappkärrsberget, I have a lot of friends who live there. I think those apartments are owned by the student union. I’ve also seen student apartments on campus at KTH, but I think those are a special arrangement with the university maybe, not sure how you can get those.
But yeah, the unfortunate reality in Stockholm is that the easiest way to get an apartment is to put up a down payment to buy a condo in a housing coop (“Bostadsrätt”). You can search for those on the government-owned real-estate site booli.se, but it usually takes 2 months for it to clear even after you buy. A typical down payment in Stockholm is 15% of the apartment/house value, ie $30-60k for a typical $200k-400k apartment.
In a pinch, you can find a room to rent second-hand (“andrahandshyra”) online, but it can be a hassle and expensive to have a landlord, and it’s sometimes a bit grey-market in the Swedish system when it comes to taxes, rent-control, and BRF rules. Plenty of sites for finding those, one is blocket, and you can find many more by googling “hyra lägenhet”.
Lycka till!

Democratic principles are important, but elections are never about one issue and some issues can be pretty divided like this one. I’m not sure if there is a poll for whether trans people should be recognized legally, but I can’t imagine that the majority will of the voters in Illinois is for encouraging LGBT suicides.
It’s also important to note that even the state isn’t simply there to enforce polls. There are laws and constitution for a reason, and officials are often more informed than the population on snap decisions. Mob rule is a risk that has to be avoided too. I just watched a series called “Show Me A Hero” where like 60-70% of the voting population in Yonkers, NY wanted to segregate housing in the 1980’s. (gerrymandering and voter suppression aside) If there was no laws in Yonkers, then those houses would still be segregated today. However, there are federal laws against racial discrimination, even if NIMBY’s are against diverse neighborhoods. In the end, the federal courts forced Yonkers to desegregate its housing, against the will of the voters.

Definitely come! Let me know if you have any questions about the system. I’m a citizen, and I only did my undergrad so far, but I’m happy to help fellow American immigrants make their way here.
The growing Chinese nuclear arsenal unrestricted by cold war-era treaties is the more pressing concern in nuclear arms (de)escalation.
