I won’t get started on a bank vs. a pantry, but they are different. What a pantry offers and when they are open varies drastically between pantries. Out of date food does not necessarily mean that it isn’t safe to eat. The FDA has a table of food types and when to throw it away. Canned and dried foods are typically good well past the expiration date.

I work at a food pantry, we are open one day a week. Pre Trump the average was 25 families, our typical now is 36. Yesterday there were 55 famlies, 150 people total. I don’t know what we are going to do next week if the snap benefits lapse. We can’t handle that many people regularly.

Yep! How much stomach acid, how fast an individuals GI system processes food, lots of variables. Diseases that affect the GI are kinda weird IMHO. :]

It would be due to multiple variables. There needs to a certain amount of bacteria in the small intestine. Some of the variables would be, the amount of bacteria initially ingested, number of bacteria that make it past the stomach, immune system of the host, time for the bacteria in the intestine to reach a concentration to cause symptoms.

There are multiple different types of salmonella infections. They typical serotype in Africa is invasive, meaning it’s in the blood and people can become septic. This one appears to be non-invasive, it is similar to food poisoning.

If you want to help bats, you can put up a bat house. There are plans for ones online to build one yourself. Bat are really struggling, between white nose fungus and humans their populations are really declining.

And keep a lookout for bats in need, when they get hurt they can be help. There might be a licensed bat rescue near you that could save them. I found a bat in my attic that had fallen into a bucket of water. It was winter and there was ice in with him! I was able to get him in a box and took him to a rehab the next day. He made a full recovery and was released that spring.

Yeah, its a really crazy virus. If you get bit or scratched by a mammal, that you don’t know for certain is vaccinated, get the vaccine.

They were more than likely infected but not yet showing symptoms. Carrying rabies but not a carrier of rabies. If you get bit in the foot, it takes awhile to reach your brain.

Plus the test for rabies needs brain tissue, cant just test blood or the organ to be transplanted
