I just started reading the dune series, after watching the movies, and I’m having a great time with it! Somehow the books do a better job of detailing the conversations between all the different characters, and setting the stage for movie 2.

Reading this thread, i think lemmy has a real problem. There sre a few comments that appear centrist or left-leaning, but the majority of comments are extremely left.
I’m not asking for neo-nazis or far right, just more centrist opinions like in this thread

I think there are some conservative opinions that are worth discussing. For one example, I’ve seen conservatives talk frequently about protecting children from an increasingly secular world. Comparitvely, that topic rarely comes up in normal lemmy topics.
Truth be told, I generally am progressive on this, but I sometimes wish I could discuss this with someone whom I may disagree with, so I could better understand where I would stand

This is bad for the health of lemmy though, I think. A discussion board/framework should be politically neutral, while still employing rules on hate speech based on the voice of the masses.
If you want to talk hate speech, I’ve seen numerous accounts on lemmy instances of people advocating for murder or other violence against “billionaires” or anyone with a significant wealth. Or same with right-wing ideals, I’ve seen users advocating similar broad calls for violence based on pretty poor assumptions against the entire right-wing USA block.

Chiming in, Michigan has variables rates depending on time of day, and range from $0.12-$0.18 per kWh

I just finished my thesis last semester, it’s a huge milestone. Good luck on yours!

End the workaholic streak and get back to my hobbies, maybe even make new friends via hobbies

Mm idk, I think knowing how to use folders is pretty important. It helps people stay organized.
The article wasn’t talking about file systems like FAT32 or NTFS. It was talking about using directories, instead of “pulling files from a laundry basket” by using a search bar.

Yep thanks

Okay cute, yeah I think that’s fair. Neutral?
NEUTRAL? No come on

It reminds me of the cowboy 10-gallon hats I saw on cartoons. Whoever the designer was for that vehicle certainly is … creative

That’s what I ended up doing. It was a weird conversation though, telling him that if it seemed like some website wasn’t working, try it on chrome and it just might work

Can I just add a different perspective on this?
My dad is really old (like early baby-boomers), and I am basically the in-family tech support when the home computer starts acting strange.
Well, right after google rolled out this update, my dad clicked on what he thought was an online shopping link. It was actually an ad for a toolbar add-on. Queue Cue like 6+ hours trying to uninstall that add-on and the bundled software.
I never had to worry about that in the past with him because I had u-block origin installed. Now I need to find something else that can run quietly in the background. And probably a better antivirus.

1000% agree. But to Lemmy’s credit, I found a greate niche community of linux and programming enthusiasts, plus I’ve noticed I run into Europeans more in the wild on here.
I think the fediverse has it’s benefits. Still not a full replacement. Truthfully I don’t think it will ever be, those niche communities will always end up being hosted where it suits them best.

So yeah not quite 99/100 but definitely a majority, especially recently. And I agree its very concerning that domestic terrorists are usually far-right. It is something I’ll bring up in the future to Trumpists, I honestly don’t know what their reaction to this info would be, but I hope it causes some kind of change.
Grouping Islamists with domestic right-wing is a bit odd, but I get your point. I doubt they would vote for Trump. Trump would also absolutely deploy the national guard and army against Islamic extremists, even if they were “right-wing” technically.
I could potentially see an argument that Islamists would be leftist in an American context, since their main opponent was the Bush and Republican administration, but that is also a stretch.
58% Far Right, 8% Far left, and 27% Islamist
Seems the most descriptive. Thanks for the info and stats

That’s fair. Personally, I am no soldier, I intend to flee if the US become a battleground, and I would encourage, even go out of my way to help, my friends and family flee as well. I would really oppose anyone I know dying for a political cause.

Yeah that’s a fair point. I looked into it a bit more, right-wing extremists have sharply increased since Jan 6th, so there is a concern there. It isn’t 99/100 though. Still high, like 90/100 <EDIT> Maggoty got some data, real number for violent terrorist attacks by political ideology is 85% far right to 8% far left. Or rather, 58% far right, 8% far left, 27% Islamist </EDIT>
For anyone interested in the stats, this is taken from the Profiles of Individual Radicalization in the United States (PIRUS) dataset at start.umd.edu

Yeah that’s fair then, 99.99999+% of leftist don’t support assassination. Trump is blowing it out of proportion.
But there are violent radicals inside the homeland, that are Americans. So he has a point somewhat.

What would be grounds for lethal action? Self defense against the national guard? An ar-15 won’t be able to do much against that. The only option for your own survival is not to play
Just wondering, what qualifies as cheap for you?
