The beginning‽ They’ve been up to shit like this for years!

Guess I’m using Links2 now…

Hey, it’s not like I’m surprised. I suggested that everyone leave for Signal as soon as Facebook bought the damn thing. The trouble was that nobody but my immediate family actually listened or cared.

I’m using it fine without Play Services. The only snag is that the notifications tend to come through several hours late, but I only really use the app for the old (mostly dead) group chat, as well as to get Wordle scores from my grandma.

Bold of you to assume I get spam in my emails or SMS

My family already moved to Signal about a year ago, and I have an online friend who I talk to over Tox; but my friends from high school pretty much only use WhatsApp, Instagram, ans TikTok, and they have never been open to my suggestions of switching to Signal and the Fediverse.

My family moved as soon as I asked last year; but my old friend group is rather stubborn.

Yes, but I didn’t sign up to receive ads in WhatsApp, nor did I agree when creating either account.

Buy and use a burner phone while you’re there, and remember that VPNs are illegal.
Ah. That’s not an issue for me, per se, but it is wholly unethical. I guess I’ll stop using it then…
I trust Mullvad with my card number a lot more than Amazon, and I did mention that I would have paid with Monero if only I had any.
As for Posteo, great experiences all around. It mostly just gets out of your way and, unlike more popular providers, isn’t always telling you about how great it is. However, the SPAM filter could be better.

Damn

No, I mean hacking. Breaking into computers remotely, malware production, etc.
SimpleX?
Tox would also be fantastic, but they need to improve their encryption and get it audited. Also, some nicer UIs in the various clients would be nice.
Syncthing. It’s not so much a backup as redundancy, though.
I have machines in the network that rarely get powered on, however, so I could possibly consider them offline backups.
