I like how they put in italics “it listens to all your conversations” and yet it’s still third in the list. Reminds me of how most mass media approach mass surveillance!

Yeah, what’s he smoking thinking that they would help invade a sovereign nation?!

Tbh I think a lot of people bury that logical side deep down and compartmentalize. The narrative we tell ourselves can be quite powerful.

I just moved north to Minnesota and the cold winters have somehow kept malls alive. Nowhere near the mall culture of previous decades but maybe worth a trip North sometime, if you miss it

This reminds me of my experience with COVID lockdown. Obviously, a pandemic and the vulnerable being sick and losing over a million American lives (and much more globally) was horrible. But for a short time, it was incredible to see the amount of people just visiting parks in the middle of the day and enjoying the warm spring that year. Getting outside to nature was a way a lot of people coped with the isolation and it was beautiful in a way. Moms and grandmas were sewing cloth masks, distilleries switched to making hand sanitizer, people in my area began using local businesses more. There was a definite sense of community, even if it happened through FaceTime calls and social distancing. There are always silver linings to tragedy, I guess.

Maybe if they can connect you to your other usage but it’s probably more of their resources and such a small % of the population that it isn’t worth the time to subvert? Idk just guessing here

Ah yes, I remember the promise of Yelp but its implementation on iOS has been the actual worst user experience for years. It is nothing but frustrating that it almost seems purposeful

Magic Earth is a great companion for turn-based driving GPS. I just need these apps business search and discovery to be better. For example, it’s really easy to find coffee shops and compare quickly using google maps and it’s basically impossible on open source methods. Wider adoption should help but it feels years away for normal people with short patience to try.

When I was a child I loved bionicles and worked all summer to raise $60 for this double set of dragon looking things. Better yet, you could combine them and make a hybrid monster. Somewhere in that process of creating the hybrid I realized it was too much work disassembling and reassembling and completely gave up.
The administration seems weak to business interest and with Apple having over a trillion dollar market value…customers being mad at them could actually somehow trickle back to Trump admin? It’s a drop in the ocean, I know. Just trying to look at it optimistically

My wife and I have been watching Lost (rewatch for me) and it’s great stuff but literally most episodes would be fixed through a conversation. At least the show acknowledges this from time-to-time and the characters use knowledge as leverage a lot shrug. If it wasn’t dramatic, a lot less people would watch

I felt this hard for two years

I have a pregnant wife who eats eggs every morning and it sucks. That and a ton of foods being prepped with eggs at some point makes the rest of food go up in price as well, I’d assume.
Chinese stealing jobs in 2020? That narrative has been around for at least 40 years!

I love the app MagicEarth for turn by turn navigation GPS. It uses OSM!

“Some people…” most people I know have been forced to follow POTUS or VP and cannot unfollow. Finally got my wife to delete her accounts

I use it in a lot of tiny ways for photo-editing, Adobe has a lot of integration and 70% of it is junk right now but things like increasing sharpness, cleaning noise, and heal-brush are great with AI generation now.

I worked for an agency helping close a midwestern diocese. They branded it a positive thing but I was in the meetings with priests hearing the low down and how closings will go. It’s sad. Half the priests are old and just trying to get through. The other half want to help but are being told the cost of their renovations is more important. Let it crumble.

The answer is yes! It depends on the type of material and the goals. For instance, the iPhone 4 was supposed to have a white version on release but it was delayed. Apple eventually blamed the different in heat and UV radiation being different, if I remember correctly. Vague rumors that it messed with the proximity sensor also floated around. This was during the antenna-gate “you’re holding it wrong” era. Could be all BS and there was no formal explanation given.
Most times it probably doesn’t affect very much but manufacturing engineers spend a lot of R&D to make sure it doesn’t by the time things to get to consumers!
Well I certainly understand the pros of this but is training your kid to have a dopamine response everytime a notification comes in and buzzes their arm is dangerous, no? It’s like training the kid to always want that feeling for the rest of their life
