  • I agree with op. lots of ppl miss key points and have fantasy with ai are on small guys’ side. Even with llm with open weight like deepseek, how close non-gov,non-com organisation can replicate results like deepseek? Where do you get enough training data, gpu, power? There’s reason why some area like hardware, payment are very hard to dominate by open source svc/prod/solution. Ai is very resources intensive and the need is from labor, capital in old day to labor, capital, hardware, training data. Ai make pay wall taller and stronger. We are fxxx. X.X T.T

  • Syncthing is pretty unmaintained now, community worries about it get abandoned multiple times. Stick around and introduce your app to those future post and your app will shine. If you are into serious backup, i would look at bareos, but it is way overkill for most ppl and old too, but very good backup pro sumer lvl open source solution. I once tried hard to shop around

  • Neonmodem looks really cool and support multiple backend. TUI is cool and definitely earns its place. Excellent for my old laptop.

But on the other hands, I wish we have a proper complicated non electron liked desktop gui. My browser probably has 1000+ tabs. So able to open multiple threads are must. But building this sophisticated desktop app is hard. I am really being spoiled by open source apps. And I am always thankful to devs’ hardwork.

  • I love lemmy the project. But there has too much political arguments in some communities and they will hate you if you aren’t 100% agree with them. Even the post and the group/community are not political, comments will turn it to political. I am kind of tired(although I know some ppl are thrilled with political arguments). There is not much the devs can do, but the content does affect the user experience quite a lot.

Nevertheless, thanks for all the hard work, nutomic and dessalines. I will donate.

  • Looks professional. I am always wondered if any video editor is client server based and/or api driven based.

For example, if the video editor can directly use tlmy server’s disk io and gpu instead of my desktop one, so my desktop client is only for controlling. Non concurrent multi users across network would be awesome.

If we can build a simple video by using APIs then fine-tune the project by using video editor, that would also awesome.

  • I think we actually have similar conclusion.

    1. We do agree blender has been achieved a lot, but it’s an unfair and uphill battle.

    2. I never claimed blender has not been used by real studios. But the market share for blender is bad, ~3% according to my quick search. And it’s probably not from big studios. If we love something, I think we also have to be unbiased, so we can improve it.

My point is that instead of blaming the blender team, we should cherish how much blender team has been achieved and offered in this harsh territory.
