They might need a brain scan device

New business venture: sell computers that totally aren’t routers, pinky promise, but just randomly happen to run OpenWrt perfectly and have all the needed hardware.

There are 15.43 million artist on spotify, so they’d get about $836,000 each.

To be fair, that’s an issue for both torrent and usenet. If it’s popular enough, you will still find seeder or reupload 15 years later but if it’s not, you may be out of luck either way

The real issue is that they pulled Windows 10. When Vista was shit, you could use XP until 7 was released, when 8 was shit, you could use 7 until 10 was released. Now 11 is the only supported version and you have no choice if you’re for some reason stuck with Windows.

Windows 11 was released 4 years ago and you still can’t move the task bar to a different edge of the screen. If Microsoft can’t implement simple feature of a core part of Windows in 4 years they most certainly can’t replace their entire C/C++ codebase in 5 years
Possibly, but there was a major cloudflare outage today that probably caused it.

The issue with fossile fuels or more generally oil dependency isn’t the limited availability. It’s that they’re massive deposits of stored carbon and if we start burning them they get released to the atmosphere. With the oil deposits already known if we use them all, we’d have killed the planet long before the last drop of oil is used. We don’t need any new deposits.

Is this even legal in the EU? The majority of phones in the EU are Android phones so this effectively gives Google control over what apps can be installed to the majority of phones. I thought the Digital Markets Act was designed to prevent exactly this.

A major version of 0 isn’t necessarily any statement regarding the projects maturity, it can also be a hack with semantic versioning. Normally, any change that is not fully backwards compatible requires you to increment the major version, but if the major version is 0, you may only increase the minor version. Because of this, many projects stay at the 0.x.y versions, so they don’t need to release version 2.0.0, 3.0.0, 4.0.0 and so on just because of minor but breaking changes as many users might expect significant new features from that version steps.
I wouldn’t say it’s bad for democracy. If anything, it reveals how damaged democracy already is in the US. At face value this isn’t any worse than students being murdered in school shootings or (democrat) politicians being murdered. Don’t get me wrong, that’s all terrible but reacting only to this event reveals that the MAGAs were only waiting for any excuse to do whatever they’re going to do now.
From that chart Qobuz seems to be the all round best deal. Is there any catch?

By that logic it would be legal to pirate anything as long as you do so to write a review. Because then you download it to create some transformative product, protected under fair use.
Or better idea: someone should write a tool so that anyone can publish an AI based on their pirated library thus turning it into fair use

What exactly is your critique? Do you think news aggregator style social media is an issue in general or is there something that lemmy just doesn’t do good enough?

I thought that he always was an asshole and just dropped the facade, but him once being somewhat sane (as far as billionaires go) and going mad from stress and drug abuse seems like a plausible hypothesis, too. Either way, doesn’t change that he needs to be stopped

I don’t get the point. Framework laptops are interesting because they are modular but for desktop PCs that’s the default. And Framework’s PCs are less modular than a standard PC because the RAM is soldered

The most surprising part to me is the timescale on which this unfolds. It’s been only a month since inauguration and the cracks are already clearly visible. I’d thought it would take at least half a year to a year before shit hits the fan, but they are efficient at being inefficient beyond my wildest imaginations.

Free and open source, but if you’re willing to pay, you could donate to the project.
I know that the year of the Linux desktop is a bit of a meme but that’s why I was referencing it. That said, the year of the Linux desktop has long come for me personally and only my desktop PC still has a Windows partition but I don’t know when I last booted into it. I won’t immediately ditch my Android phone, but I’m excited to test the viability of a Linux phone for me personally
