  • Please don’t take this the wrong way, but if you aren’t from the US you probably don’t understand. We don’t generally have the same protections workers in other countries have. There’s no guaranteed sick days or PTO. Healthcare is usually tied to - or at least heavily subsidized by - your employment. Education has been defunded for decades. Housing costs are so high and minimum wages so low that many struggle to afford rent, let alone get onto the property ownership ladder.

    On the contrary, entertainment is relatively cheap and plentiful. Even those in poverty are generally able to escape their woes temporarily with the TV or online. The system is designed to keep people helpless and complacent, and it’s been working beautifully from the perspective of the ruling class.

    What this all results in is people with jobs that barely pay enough to afford to meet their basic needs, and can’t go without work because they can’t afford the risk of no healthcare or income, and aren’t inclined or educated enough to better their situations.
