Can’t go wrong with a pi. I’m using a pi4 for mine with a sonoff usb ZigBee dongle. Can’t give you accurate power consumption but it’ll be fairly minimal I would think.


Though it is 2026. Who’s to say Elon didn’t feed the unredacted files into grok while out of his face on ket 🙃

Nice write up, I enjoyed reading this! 15-20 years ago I would have loved nix and dumping hours into configuring every little detail.
I’m at the point now where I just want a distro I can install in 10-20 mins, copy over a couple of dot files, install a few apps, and be up and running.

This. The arch wiki is a treasure trove of information. The more you do, the more you’ll learn.
Also, don’t blindly copy paste configs for editors or window managers. Just slowly build them up based on your own use. It’ll be painful initially but worthwhile in the long run
Feel like they should just leave it alone after the winter change.
