Ah, so that’s why it was chosen as the default here.

When I first signed up here, or tried to sign up here, join-lemmy just didn’t want to load anything. So I ended up going to bed and trying again the next morning. The next morning, it finally loaded the list of instances and going by the experience I had just had with the website battling to even load anything, I chose an instance advertised as “join here to reduce load on larger instances”. And this instance just didn’t want to load anything properly. Half of the images in posts just weren’t showing up. And when I searched LGBTQ+ and feminist communities, only dead communities showed up and I’m pretty sure nothing from Blåhaj.

Then I went to world and still found it to be a ghost town. Eventually I realised that it was because ‘English’ wasn’t selected in my language settings. Because I didn’t realise that you have to ctrl click to select both ‘undefined’ and ‘English’. I’ve used software where you have to ctrl click but I’m not sure I’ve ever come across another website where this is the case. And on this note, the whole fact that ‘undefined’ even exists as an option comes across as bush league and makes it look like a beta version.

Then there’s another issue here. The god damn internal politics. So someone signs up on the insurance that says “focused on programming and development”, then have everyone calling them a tankie or be cut off from multiple instances that have de-federated. It’s clear to me now that ‘ml’ stands for “Marxist Leninist” but when you’re new here and just looking at descriptions in join-lemmy, it just looks like a unique url like all the others.

Personally I think there’s a lot of reasons that people would give up trying to get started here. That’s before even trying to break them ice with a silly question in AskLemmy and getting snarky snark and smart asses in the replies. And I use that as an example because in my first week here, I saw someone post an innocent question in AskLemmy, get hostility as a response, then leave.

Must be nice being in a position where when things go right (does that actually ever even happen with these fucking people?), you take all of the credit. But when things go wrong, it’s because of your aides and advisors.

Another one to throw into the mix of mentions here. The first Val Kilmer movie that I actually always think of is The Island of Dr. Moreau. A bit offbeat I suppose but one of my absolute favourite childhood movies and I rented the VHS on more than one occasion. Think I might need to rewatch now.

The only two that I ever still make use of are XDA for custom firmwares and other Android related shit. And Pokecommunity for the ROM hacking / decompilation stuff.

Probably DC Comics. And it depends what my role in this universe would be. But knowing my luck I’d just be a random civilian that gets wiped out during the latest rampage by Atomic Skull or something. But at least everything gets reset every few years, so that I could live again to be super villain fodder another day.

Especially for gaming. My old Nokia N81 kicked this rectangular piece of glass’s ass when it comes to gaming because I could actually comfortably play games that weren’t turn based and didn’t need to slap an overlay onto the screen.

Yeah there’s no good reason for a limit. Having no character limit doesn’t stop people from making short posts if they want. If they don’t want long posts taking up half the page, then they should just hide the rest of the text behind a ‘see more’ prompt once it goes over 300 characters.

On a platform like Bluesky I can kinda understand if they limited replies to posts to 300 characters, so that people don’t get walls of text in their inboxes but the original top post should be unlimited IMO.

I used to think a future with cyborgs would be pretty cool but personally, I’m not so hot on the idea anymore. The problem is that you would be beholden to whichever corporation or government manufactures and pays for parts. And who is to say that the support for whichever product that you’ve surgically implanted will be for life, and that you won’t end up with useless landfill electronics sewed up inside of you.

Personally I think that if AI was ever made with altruistic purposes, that could fill the role of things like complex calculations and extra memory or a log. And good Augmented Reality could fill the role of interacting directly with entertainment and blocking out the outside world. And maybe one day there would be effective ways of interacting directly with computers through electrodes or even wirelessly. Although who knows how our privacy would be invaded then. There could be literal thought police in that case.

The problem is that the tech will always come from someone else. Imagine integrating this kind of tech into your life on such a deep level and then the person in charge of over seeing and maintaining this tech turns out to be an authoritarian nazi.

Just fyi, if you want the actual hashtag to show up, you need to put a backslash () before it.

Personally, I fucking hate when markup only requires one symbol because it means you need to add a fucking backslash every time you actually want to legitimately use that symbol. And it’s kinda anti user because people who aren’t that clued up about how the markdown works are going to be wanting to make their posts in a particular way and end up with weird unexpected shit like bolding and resizing. I hate it. It should at the very least require a hashtag on either side of what you want to resize.

I’ll definitely check it out again then. As a dual booter (for now until I can’t update Windows 10 anymore), cross platform is ideal but otherwise as close as possible is the next best thing.

Last time I checked out Notepadqq, it was nothing like Notepad++, if what you want from Notepad++ are the features. Maybe it’s improved though. Personally I’ve found that with the right combination of settings and add-ons, the closest editors on Linux to Notepad++ are Geany (GTK) or Kate (KDE).

As a South African, I’m willing to bet that not a single farmer was amongst these people (and I’m not saying there aren’t racist farmers, I’m saying they’re more economically literate than these clowns, so they know relocating to the USA would be a bad idea). These are literal trailer trash that had their asses wiped for them by black people all their lives, who now have to live with the ‘horror’ of not being put on a pedestal for existing anymore. Whether it was apartheid days or now post apartheid days, the only thing that these useless inbred fucking hillbillies ever contributed to society was hate.

I wouldn’t wish them on America but I do wish that they would just fuck off somewhere else or die already.

I know that there’s a teenager advice community of some flavour floating around in the Blåhaj server. But I’m gonna take a guess that the only reason it’s there is because people who can’t just scroll past things were downvoting it. I have a feeling that if an instance or multiple communities for teenagers popped up, the users here would probably terrorize it until it all closed down.
