I use strict HTTPS-only mode in my web browser and legitimately can’t remember the last time it’s broken a website that I wasn’t personally hosting as a dev server. At this point, I would never expect to be able to keep my interactions with any website that doesn’t support HTTPS private, VPN or not.
No amount of traffic/DNS encryption actually hides where your requests are coming from, or where they are going to. Your IP address and the IP addresses of the sites you visit are always unencrypted. VPNs hide both of these; realistically that’s their sole purpose on the modern web.
It took me trying the Microsoft 365 app exactly once to permanently switch to LibreOffice Viewer. Sure it can’t do editing but I don’t really care about that, and viewing Office files works flawlessly. As far as I know it’s not on Apple devices, but if you’ve got an Android device you should check it out.

Having lived through 3 partial/total solar eclipses, even a small shift in the amount of light really fucks with the rhythm of the entire environment. Birds stopped chirping entirely at noon last time. We’d just be replacing one form of global disaster with another.
Not to mention we’d end up fully saturating the available orbital space around earth, causing constant satellite crashes and the complete inability to launch rockets through the mesh and debris. At a certain point the satellites would cease to function entirely through all the trash orbiting earth and at that point we’d have essentially walled ourselves off from ever safely exploring space. It’s a terrible idea all around

For what it’s worth, REAPER works great on Linux. Ik it doesn’t fill quite the same niche as Ableton but it is very capable, especially paired with yabridge for using VSTs via WINE.

Assuming your filenames are unique, you can just run a recursive search for the file on your whole music library:
find /path/to/search -type f -name "filename.ext"
It’s supposedly to mess with AI if it trains on your comments, but in actuality it does literally nothing unless everyone on the whole internet starts doing it, so it’s completely pointless and only makes you hard to understand.
Honestly, even if everyone on the internet started doing it, I don’t get the point at all, considering poisoning an AI model like that wouldn’t even make it work less well. You could fix the output with a simple find and replace algorithm, and it’d still be understandable even if you didn’t. It’s completely pointless and a perfect example of armchair activism.
I’m playing devil’s advocate here, but isn’t all impartiality a feint? No human is free of bias; at least if they do their best to act the part, it’s better than the blatant, open, unashamed corruption going on in the government today. If a judge holds dumb personal biases but puts those aside to judge, that’s not “feigning impartiality”, that’s doing their job. Because as I mentioned before, religion has no place in justice.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, the establishment of Christianity in the US is horribly corrupt. I suppose I’m arguing to judge these pieces of shit by their character, not their religion. I’m not even Christian, I just believe it’s dangerous to start applying mass generalizations to any group of people. Religion has no place in justice, either in protecting or hurting someone’s case.
I think if she wants to argue that Christianity is so central to her being that she cannot make impartial decisions, she should be permanently dismissed, as she is clearly not fit for the position. There are plenty of Christians out there capable of impartiality, she is the problem, not her religious preference.
I liked ZorinOS quite a bit at first but ultimately found it didn’t have enough customization for me. That and installing a secondary desktop environment bricked it so hard I couldn’t fix it no matter what I tried.
Moved back to Mint and I couldn’t be happier. Especially with Timeshift, I don’t have to worry about bricking the thing, which is a huge bonus for me over Zorin. I’ve barely had to touch the terminal in the whole process of setting it up (even for more advanced tasks like adding an extra desktop panel and configuring apps to run on startup)
The difference is that the AI summaries blatantly make shit up and actively contribute to the spread of misinformation
Mainly a compatibility thing afaik. For web stuff it’s actually pretty great but people don’t like not being able to download it in a format that works with image viewers and editing apps
