it already helps that most of the data in HTTPS traffic is encrypted, otherwise your network provider would see freely what user account do you use, to post what content, on what subforums.

encrypting all traffic on the wire helps additionally to hide what websites you visit (DNS and SNI in HTTPS) and what kind of other web services you use. your local ISP will only see an opaque stream of data to a single VPN company.

I prefer reading the release notes before updating, because if there was something I don’t like often I can’t just go back. other then that it would be better if past release notes would be readable in the app, so you can read it later.

I think apps that show the release notes right on next launch just wanted to tick off a feature request the developer did not really find useful to put enough thought into it.

This is likely to have every one of your logins, not just a single login that may or may not be used on other sites, but the specific username and password and which site it’s associated with. On addition to access to those accounts, this links all of your accounts to a single identity which companies spend billions to do with advertising IDs, cookies, embedded scripts, and lots of other, usually shady, practices. This is a gold mine, though usually only for one or a few users, so generally not a major target unless you’re being targeted personally for some reason. So, even if they don’t get the passwords, they’ve now linked every account you have on every site to your identity.

afaik everything is encrypted. not like a big blob, but the properties of items are encrypted separately, if the encrypted export format has anything to do with the database structure

yeah. but in my experience, what’s worse is people just have a hard time using it. especially when they only need it rarely and don’t have the need to learn it. and it doesn’t help that it’s redesigned every year.

its just as usable with KDE, but depending on distro you might need to install the server part yourself.

but also these are LAN only solutions, and VPN. for actual remote access you have to forward ports but I wouldn’t do that for risky things like that. Instead use rustdesk, but even teamviewer would be a better idea
