Interesting! Thanks.

Turnips more or less grow themselves, but raising a barn without modern cordless tools and truss plates requires a lot of the skills we should be lamenting the loss of. Hand saws, hand planes, handmade nails (that are expensive), hand sharpening and sanding… there’s more to building a barn than growing a field of turnips is all I’m sayin.

You’re a funny bugger :)
I was going to reply to your hourglass and sundial joke with a reflection that hourglasses are so much older than the relatively recent development of sundials, but you clearly knew that so I didn’t. And then the one-two. You could have done cuneiform vs hieroglyphs but tablets vs papyrus is the better gag. Keep it up :)

Mansions saved thousands of lives and more for future generations
Nah this thread isn’t about the housing crisis

Lol I bet your comment confused them, that line is originally from that On Top of Spaghetti song and it was repurposed by Bread in his classic number The Meatballs the Meatballs the Meatballs the Meatballs the Meatballs the Meatballs of Liiiife. I love Bread. I’m a huge Breadhead and Bread can get all up in my guts any time.
We should expand the volume of society then! PV=nRT baby
Bring back punctuation altogether at this stage!

I think that’s the opposite of what’s needed.

That’s a reasonable reflection. Tensions can be high on Lemmy these days.

Tief is German for deep, and -ling is used similarly to English, meaning a creature, often in a diminutive sense but not always. I didn’t know what a tiefling was but maybe this extra info helps.

Don’t worry, they won’t pay out.

I know these tactics, they’re designed to goad me into an emotive response so I lose the argument!
They’re not a case in themselves and your smugness is distasteful. Your interlocutor is treating you with more respect than you are showing in return.

Damn I didn’t know Harvard issued medial cruciate ligaments

That’s the trouble with words like ‘artificial’ and ‘natural’. They mean nothing. It would be better to call them refined additives, because I expect the “stevia” would be in a refined, extracted form when added - whether substantially changed from the form present in the plant or not, this could be considered artificial, if we insist on using this word.

The point is less about whether Mangione himself killed the CEO than schadenfreude at a protected class who keep thinking they’re better than the rest of us. I realise all sorts of other speculative discussions are going on about whom to point the finger at, but it’s more interesting to consider the implications of taking back power from the greedy and priveleged by force (especially when we’re cowed into thinking we’re powerless).

Veterinary organisations would keep records and may add to them with trusted data sources, but they’re likely primarily government funded.
China has still fucked up its environment massively though. Being the world’s factory produces a lot of byproducts. Sure, they’re concentrating them and trying to detoxify the worst of it but the place is swimming in effluent that does great damage to life in one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. “Green” in the sense of renewable energy and climate change mitigation is not green in the sense of preserving the last tracts of intact wilderness to limit mass extinctions.
