I just deal with snap and don’t use it unless I have to. The pro thing is kind of stupid. I have 6 computers and vms on pro. There is no actual check preventing it from working. They have some bug where it appears like your have double the computers checking in sometimes. So when I had 5, it’d show 10 sometimes. So now it just shows 6 or 12.
Everything works fine. I’m ignoring it for now.
Someday I’ll switch, but until that day, I’m chillin’.
People don’t like Ubuntu because they’re(Ubuntu) trying to make money with it. For end users, it’s can be a non issue because “pro” is free for 5 computers. But seeing the paywall for some is really off putting to some (myself included).
Snap really sucks and is Ubuntu’s attempt at a private garden. I hate it so much.
But yet I still use Ubuntu because it works, and if it doesn’t work there’s a post somewhere with details on how to fix it.
I’ve been using Linux off and on since Red Hat 5.2 ish era. I can handle the tech geek stuff. I just don’t want to.
Is it though? Sure he could hire a programmer, but Claude is far less expensive. I agree with his position, he’s a project/product manager, not a programmer. And that’s okay sometimes.
I think it’s that it feels like someone has an agenda and this is posted over and over and over again.
There’s always a few quick responses of “oh I didn’t know that” followed by outage posts slightly later. Same pattern, every time.
It feels very manufactured to me. On one hand, I do understand the core complaint, but I don’t understand the outage. It’s outsized to what this is, so it feels fake.

It’s like Mint with no ads and data privacy. There are other budgeting tools that can be better, but if you’re just after tracking and less about expense planning, this works well. Also compares well to YNAB with similar configuration options there if you go that route.

The question at the end where he basically ignored and didn’t answer was “so how do we do this?”. THAT is the question. I’d love to hear that answer.
This is me. As I write to you from my Graphene Pixel 9. My first non Samsung phone since the S3. The S22 unwanted ads were just too much. (and apparently it’s all worse now) You could disable them, but you had to re disable after every update. The second I found a good deal on a pixel I jumped.
You can already do this with their custom css. I did it for about 5 minutes and then realized paying $99 was the right thing to do. It’s a reasonable ask on their part.

I dislike that I can’t group up things in folders in graphene in the drawer. I switched to Smart Launcher. It’s not exactly folders, but it’s good.
The Google TV boxes (onn) from Walmart are a solid option. $49 for the Pro is an excellent price for the hardware.
before the “razor throat” was published, my wife and I both got it and the tests came back negative so we thought it was something else. Nope, it was totally ‘razor throat covid’. Wasted 2 tests (or maybe the tests are just too old now?)

You might mention the library license of the underlying library, it’s strictly non commercial meaning yours is too.
Gitlab really pissed me off with their paid plans for work. We moved to GitHub, and while that’s not popular here, they offered everything we needed at nearly 1/4 the price.
Gitlab kept saying $99/user per month, no way to have different “classes” of users at different paid plans. Just awful.
I told them we were switching unless they came back with a fair offer. Ignored. Renewal time came up and I told them we weren’t renewing… Oh NOW they want to bargain and try to retain us??? F right off. Microsoft might be the devil, but they offer a good product for the price.
I used to self host gitlab, but they kept putting things behind the pay wall. GG.

There are some reasons. Networking can get messed up, so Docker Desktop “fixed that” for you, but the dirty secret is it’s basically a Linux VM with Docker CE and some convenience network routes.
I agree, Rancher Desktop over Podman Desktop. But if you want to cut out Docker CE completely, I think Podman is the only option.
