This is wild:
One problem: sticky shed syndrome. Instead of spooling smoothly off the reel, some poorly preserved tape adheres to the layer below it. “If you just play the tape, you start ripping oxide off it, which erases the tape in the most heinous way possible,” Ackerman explained. The solution is remarkably low-tech: baking. Using special laboratory ovens that are capable of holding a constant steady temperature, Ackerman bakes VHS tapes at 125 to 130 degrees Fahrenheit for up to five days. “If you can bake the tape at a particular temperature for a particular amount of time, you can temporarily re-cure the material for long enough to get a good preservation transfer,” she said. It’s a high-stakes gamble: There might only be one chance to read the tape before it’s too degraded to try again.

I’m on old reddit and I didn’t know there was a difference between /r/all and /r/popular? Theres the subs you are subscribed to and then there is the trash main page. What is a home feed? Is that the front page with your subscriptions?

Well that’s a real kick in the nuts.

I use YACLibrary and YACReader

I think we have to go through a long drawn out stage of Microslop pretending they can change before we get to that part.

The OCC expressed concern that, between 2020 and 2025, the banks restricted access or required “escalated reviews and approvals before providing … access” to certain customers with connections to oil and gas, coal, firearms, private prisons, tobacco, payday lending, adult entertainment, digital assets or political action committees and political parties.
It’s that last part that, presumably, spurred President Donald Trump in January to accuse Bank of America – while its CEO was on stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland – of debanking conservatives.

They did a previous study on what 65,000 satellites would look like and that was pretty bleak. Also this bit:
Latitudes near 50° Will Experience the Worst Light Pollution.
Thats a large chunk of Europe.

Similar but yes

Ultimately, the end game will be certain websites (like your Bank) won’t trust your identity because your using some FOSS verification service and as “they take security seriously” will require you to use MS or Google.
You can see parts of this already. When I’m browsing the web in Linux I get hot with way more captcha checks when accessing websites than when using Windows.

I feel like there is a line coming with hardware and software and that will be the last of it’s type as the move towards subscription based services is forced onto everyone. Its a shame people won’t vote with their wallets. It just means I’ll have my basement crammed with old tech and I’ll go full old man mode and stop keeping up with technological progress.

I bought cheap tires from Walmart for both cars and the tpms failed on both cars.

I used it as my first Linux OS and didn’t have any issues. I didn’t use flatpaks though? I just used the AUR.

That’s a crazy story. Glad you didn’t get caught up in their incompetence. Do you still do business with them?
Because having one thing is never good. IA goes down then what? Also archive.today captures websites differently which can work in a pinch when IA fails to archive a site.

Its crazy how well the foot in the door technique works.
