Graphene OS doesn’t use an alternative to Google services. It’s the OG Google services they use. The only difference is on graphene, it’s installed as a user app, not a privileged app.

Proprietary blobs are also present throughout regular linux distributions. And I hear and participate with the moans they generate but users understand that sometimes modems, wireless chips or GPUs (main culprits) have us stuck at the onset of using Linux at all. Debian had to reverse it’s procedure from a default free only to default mix and user has to specify if he doesn’t want proprietary firmware installed. Even graphene OS has to make do with proprietary firmware.

Jolla has sailfish OS as the official ROM and it has for quite a few years now (for all their past phones). It’s not marketed as a dev experimental.

There is also that french privacy advocate Christophe Boutry who got his Qonto account closed because he talked badly about Pallantir and Thiel is a big investor in Qonto.

I haven’t heard them say what format will be included in the torrent, say it’s 20 TB blocks of secured archival format. Then you would have to download that full volume ( at least, there are ways to force you to download the full 15 set of 20 TB archives) before decompressing it and see files as is, that would rendering streaming or casual downloading impossible under current tech.

RMS warned of this a bit over 20 years ago. This is why you should get Free and Open source software and not Open Source Software. Preferably with a GPL licence which allows you to download, run, read the code, modify it and share it. Open source can mean you only have the right to read the code and signal to the dev code you’ve saw that could have been better or errors you saw.

True: self hosting is beneficial, Foss office suite is great to empower us, users… etc.

The point of the software presented isn’t aimed at regular computer users that would enjoy a bit of independence, it looks more like something aimed at the enterprise administrative level that people may stumble upon while searching for a document (who needs versioning apart from filename extensions if you alone work on the documents).See it as: you may find , download and use updated packaged software on github but in reality it’s really a tool aimed at devs before being a software repository for end users.

I see this as software mainly for the French or German state administration being made public for others to enrich, integrate… Like Olvid is a matrix based E2E encrypted, real authenticated identity based messenger made available to the public once the French government financed it’s development for it’s own use.

Even nextcloud-not-AIO offers a way to install the server of office suites through the settings of the admin account all in the web GUI. I’ve chosen onlyoffice but it could have been nextcloud docs or collabora (and soon maybe, this thing)
