It’s the way people keep bringing it up. Like my mom, who I’m pretty sure doesn’t even know anyone who is autistic. But she continually wonders why there are “so many of them now,” as if it’s a problem. She doesn’t consistently bring up any other societal issues such as, why are there so many traffic accidents or increases in cancer diagnoses (although she does bring up increased crime even though it hasn’t actually increased). I just can’t fathom why she worries so much about autism when her life isn’t affected by it whatsoever.

I guess you missed the post where everyone was complaining the protests are only filled with centrist libs? How many actual tankies exist in the US, do you think? Maybe all of them live in your city.

But how do they know which email that might be? Do they even know which of my accounts are for business or personal use? If I send an email from my business email to a bunch of friends and relatives to plan a party, will Google assume those are subscribers and pull my party-planning content from my email and put that info… somewhere… on my business page? I don’t want them reading any of my emails, ever.

The email from Google was laughable in that it contained almost no info on how this process is supposed to work. All it means to me is that I don’t have control over my own content. This should have been opt-in instead of opt-out.

I want to know how a university can just revoke a degree after the fact. Unfortunately the article didn’t say a damn thing about it, not even how many they actually revoked.

There’s really no way we could invade half of those places and still fight the unrest that will be happening inside the US. I bet you’d find plenty of Americans willing to defect and fight for Canada.

Look, communicating awkwardly doesn’t make you a horrible person. I think part of it is you have a confidence problem. It sounds like you always cowtow to your coworkers’ reactions, even going so far as apologizing when you haven’t objectively done anything wrong (your responses don’t seem that weird, but maybe it is the way you say things). It seems odd to me that anyone would be offended by an offer to go home early, unless you’re making it seem like you specifically don’t want them to be around.

At the end of the day, your coworkers are just people with their own issues and imperfections. They are probably not experts at communication either, so don’t treat them as such. I would not take any social cues from coworker 1.

You may not be able to change the dynamic at work, so my advice is to find a way to socialize outside of work (with people who actually like & respect you!). That way you won’t have to rely on your workplace for those needs.

How is that post borderline insane? It’s a lot of unnecessary detail, but outgrowing your high school mates is a pretty common thing that people sometimes don’t know how to handle.

It’s not that uncommon for smaller or private planes to crash, I think partially due to private pilots not having as much training and experience as commercial pilots, and the fact that smaller planes probably aren’t as stable in turbulent weather. Pretty sure the one in Alaska had more to do with the weather than traffic controllers. We tend to only hear about the small crashes when they have famous people on board.

Don’t go to Facebook first! We need to start normalizing ways to organize outside of those giant corpo-fascist sites.

Especially at work, where you can’t leave and should probably be focusing on the work.

What? How is it a property grab if no one can live there? Only the stupidest and/or richest people would buy an uninsurable home. You can’t get a mortgage without insurance, because the banks want to make sure they still have an asset to repossess if you default. Even if you were that rich, why would you throw your money away on something that will almost certainly be destroyed, sooner rather than later, without a way to recoup any of the cost? If a company like Zillow comes in and snaps up all the uninsurable homes in these regions, they’ll be declaring bankruptcy within 5 years.

Find a hiking group or partner then. It’s free, you’ll get a little exercise, and it doesn’t have to be much of a commitment.

But with digital boarding passes, they can get access to your entire phone. Last time I flew, I tried scanning my digital boarding pass at TSA. The guy stops me and basically just takes my phone to do it himself. I was trying to watch what he was doing with it, but he was sitting behind a terminal. When he handed the phone back, the web browser was open, showing my phone carrier’s website, instead of my boarding pass like it was when I handed it to him. There’s a small chance it could have been accidental, but if not, I don’t know what he was trying to access or why. Very unsettling.

You win, lol. That’s terrible.

My mom used to be a great cook but now she just makes everything in the microwave, often in plastic containers. This year she seemed to forget half the things she was going to cook. We had plans to make beignets and homemade eggnog (we didn’t). For Christmas dinner she made this elaborate meal plan and then changed everything at the last minute. She somehow didn’t think about starting the rice until the chicken was done cooking… then suggested we have nasty precooked pouch rice. For Christmas dinner. It would be different if she didn’t cook much or know how, but cooking is her whole thing! I’m honestly baffled. I’ve decided I’m just going to volunteer to cook the entire dinner next time. I’ve been a professional cook before. I can make something fancy, even if I’m the only one who will appreciate it.

If it chipped, then it is likely some kind of vinyl or composite made to look like wood. Nowadays the fake wood looks realistic enough to fool people! But real wood doesn’t chip like that.

I’m surrounded by pine trees, blackberry bushes, and ivy. Christmas looks pretty green to me!
