Unfortunately manufacturers are starting to get wise to this as well. I recently bought a new Vizio smart TV with no intentions of connecting it to the internet and during the initial setup it kept very persistently insisting that it needed to be connected and after setup it constantly bitches at me that it’s not connected.
Stay away from the “bandwagon” distros for your first time. Bazzite, Pop_OS, Cachy, etc. There’s nothing wrong with them, but a lot more people use and have been using the more established distros such as Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, etc. So if you run into any weird edge case issues it’s much more likely that someone else has already been there and discovered solutions. Once you’re comfortable with Linux you can start exploring the more niche distros that are better tailored to you. Have fun!

These morons really think AI is going to allow them to replace the technical folks. The same technical folks they severely loathe because they’re the ones with the skills to build the bullshit they dream up, and as such demand a higher salary. They’re so fucking greedy that they are just DYING to cut these people out in order to make more profits. They have such inflated egos and so little understanding of the actual technology they really think they’re just going to be able to use AI to replace technical minds going forward. We’re on the precipice of a very funny “find out” moment for some of these morons.

You can just use analog security cameras and a DVR of your choosing. Don’t let the word analog fool you, the cameras are available in up to 4K resolution. Since the video is recorded to the DVR and not some random company’s server it is safe. It requires a little more setup and know-how but it is by no means difficult. Check the surveillance section on B&H’s website. There are tons of options.
But why does the HDMI fourm not want a open source 2.1-compliant implementation? Is it DRM related? I feel like it’s DRM related.
I’d still be using my OG Google Pixel if it hadn’t suffered a sudden and unexpected death. I was using it like normal one day and it just turned off.

That’s why I installed an analog camera DVR system in my home. It cheap, reliable, locally hosted, and best of all I’m the only one with access. (Not counting the Chinese government via the mandated backdoor in the DVR firmware) it’s great!

I recently got a creality printer for free and as someone who had little interest in 3D printing before, it’s been great. Completely maintenance free so far and I’ve gone through two entire spools of filament so it’s getting a ton of use!
Maybe “obtaining” wasn’t the right word. I’ve been buying music from iTunes and Amazon.
Ah, feels good to know I just set up my Navidrome server and have been obtaining my entire music library for personal streaming.
Weird. I’ve never dried my filament and never have this issue.
