Oh 100% but have you tried to explain how to use one to a computer novice? Like yes, the answer is usually “they should just…” but novice users will never. With flatpak, they get an experience similar to how MacOS works and a bit like how .exes work and it Just Works™️

Edit: like I’ve had trouble showing people how to use the GNOME App Store which could not be any more simple. Anyone who has been convinced to install Linux already feels way out of their element so making everything feel as natural as possible is essential (and I mean, flatpaks are awesome anyway)

I love installing things from the CLI and prefer to only do it that way but Linux needs a single click install method for applications if it’s ever going to become a mainstream OS. The average person just wants to Google a program, hit download and install. If not that then they want to use a mobile-like App Store.

Flatpak is kind of perfect at achieving both those things

Oh! I use something somewhat similar for when I do need to browse Reddit on mobile. It’s called Sink It for Reddit . It doesn’t affect old Reddit so much but makes the mobile site bearable

I just refuse to use the official mobile app. When they killed Apollo, I left. I’ll use old Reddit sometimes when on my desktop but all my mobile browsing is on Lemmy with Voyager

I mean, a lot of people didn’t expect Trump to tear down the American government within months of getting into power either. With Trump stating that he wants to annex Canada “through economic means” and then immediately attacking us with ridiculous tariffs, it seems like he’s following through on that. I don’t think he’ll hurt us as bad economically as he’s hoping though, so I don’t think him declaring actual war on us out of the picture. It honestly seems like he’s already trying to warm his base up to the idea with us being “a national security threat” and “overrun by cartels”.

Idk, just try to picture the POTUS repeatedly saying he’s going to annex your home for months on end, and then try not to get a little bit on edge.

If the rest of the world can reconfigure its trade (which it’s in the process of doing), it’s going to impact the US a lot more than anywhere else.

For sure and I wouldn’t call 1980s centrists fascists but at this point the US Overton window has shifted so far to the right that it’s hard to forgive anyone still in the middle. Like you have one party that’s brought on a billionaire to dismantle the government, threatening annexation of a number of sovereign nations, detaining people (not even convicted of any crimes) in brutal, torturous ways, and a million other horrid things; and then you have the other party that just kind of wants to keep things the status-quo.

If the former party is fascism and the latter is (sane) liberal conservatism, what would you call someone in the centre of that? Looking in from outside the US, I don’t see much of a difference between proponents of the fascism and the centrists. Like if I hear someone “in the centre” say “hmm well maybe Trump is right, we should invade Canada/Greenland/Panama”, I’m going to rightfully call them a fascist.

Important note: I wouldn’t say this applies to other countries where the Overton window isn’t so insanely far to the right
