Reminded me of dialing in to BBSs to play LORD. I had a nice collection of ANSI and ASCII art. I thought I was hot shit with my i486 that had two hard drives, 100MB & 200MB. Look out world!

Just a reminder that Clarence Thomas is a former Monsanto lawyer and has never recused himself from a case involving them. Not that anyone actually thinks he has an iota of ethics anyways.

If you can get it to connect. None of our phones could

Saw this posted somewhere. Not my words, but I and many Americans I know agree with this:
"To everyone outside the US who’s angry at Americans right now, especially those of us who hate Trump and feel trapped: Please understand this. We do not elect our president the way you think we do. Millions of us voted against him. Millions of us are terrified of the damage being done. We are not cheering this on. We are living inside it. If you’re wondering why we don’t just “revolt like the French” or “fix it” here is the reality of being an American right now:
Our system is rigid, slow, and stacked in ways that make “just revolt” a fantasy. We don’t have a culture where mass strikes shut the country down overnight. We don’t have a centralized government you can pressure in one city. We have fifty states, militarized policing, surveillance, debt, and jobs tied to health insurance. For many people, losing a job for protesting means losing healthcare and housing.
France is smaller than Texas. Organizing a “national” revolt across 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million square km) and 330 million people isn’t just difficult, it’s logistically close to impossible. That doesn’t mean we’re complacent. It means we’re constrained. Anger at US power is fair. Fear of US decisions is fair. But blaming every American, especially those who are fighting, exhausted, and scared alongside you, misses the mark.
We’re not watching this from the sidelines. We’re stuck in the same burning house. Just closer to the fire."

Americans are harder on their R’s where they’re written, but Brits take the R’s out and put them softly in other places where they aren’t written (to the American ear)

I’m having a whole cognitive dissonance moment because I could’ve sworn it was “anenome”. I even studied this in college and have an ecology degree. Likely over the last twenty years I convinced myself that the common incorrect pronunciation is correct, but I immediately looked it up and then tried to rationalize that it was some sort of mandala effect. The simplest answer is that it’s confabulation on my part, and I’m wrong.

This is exactly what I’ve been thinking. He wants to keep his name in the news. He’s not who we need, but I appreciate that he has teeth.
Back during Sanders’ campaign, there was so much momentum, but he was blackballed from coverage. All of sudden, media was telling everybody that Biden was the top candidate. Tf!? Nobody was talking about Biden being a serious candidate until it looked like there was no choice. He was a fucking joke as a VP.
Newsom is starting early, and yeah sure, he’s leagues better than what we have now (as president,) but come on, he’s still a shit candidate. Almost anyone is going to look appealing compared to our current president. Let’s not go for the loudest son of a bitch just because he’s loud. Let’s not box ourselves in this early by the “we need to rally around the strongest option” argument. We’ve got another three years of eating this shit sandwich. There are so many better options than Newsom. Buttigieg, maybe AOC, let’s see how this shakes out. But come on, Newsom? Really?
Asking in good faith, will a Newsom supporter explain why he might be the best option over others? I’ll honestly keep an open mind and ask questions to learn.

After a week of stomachaches, I took my wife to the hospital. They ran some tests and told her it was likely norovirus. Charged us over $4000.

I don’t think it’s as simple as that. They offered to sell the technology to all major saw makers when they invented it. They were turned down. SawStop isn’t responsible for saws that don’t use their technology nor do they have to let major tool manufacturers steal their IP. They have offered to give it away if it’s mandated.

From the article: “SawStop pledged to Congress that it would waive patent protections in the event of an industry-wide finger-safety mandate.”

I absolutely agree that the cost of replacing a blade and brake is worth it. I cut the tips off two fingers over ten years ago. I know many people in the industry that have also lost fingers. The technology is great! I only pointed out the supposed downsides for context. It does seem that this issue is nuanced, but the technology definitely helps.

To add to your comment: SawStop tried to sell their technology to all major saw producers originally. They all refused. That’s when SawStop started making their own saws and did a pretty good job of it. They’re high quality. It was at this point that SawStop had to protect their patent. Bosch tried to make their own and violated it. Ultimately, their goal has always been to save people from table saw accidents. It’s pretty generous to give up their patent if implemented industry-wide and speaks to the authenticity of their mission.
The technology is not without faults. Cutting wet wood, like pressure treated, might trip the brake. I believe there’s a way to turn off the mechanism for these instances. In that case, you have to replace the blade and brake. The blade could be recovered, but won’t be ready to continue working right away. You’d need back up blades and brakes on hand. But still, erring on the side of caution is better than not.

Congress loves to hold themselves hostage at the sake of federal workers and the American people. They get paid either way, go on vacation. May even give themselves a raise.

Was it not the end consumer who paid those tariffs?? Frankly, I’d rather it be given back to the business at least, but let’s not pretend that they didn’t extract it from their customers. End it so that other companies can’t as easily gouge based on the idea of tariffs.

Talk to real people in your community. I have friends all across the political spectrum and class spectrum. We can disagree on many things, but we agree on most things. That’s important. Quit guzzling “news”.
After Helene, I saw how people respond to real problems. Showed me that what I was already doing really is the way. Love people. Show them love. Fuck the news, fuck the headlines, focus on your community. Stop seeding fear. That’s all it is. Be love.
I know it’s fucked, but just focus on the people around you and foster good relationships. Don’t try to understand everything they do or think that’s different from you. Just accept them where they’re at and where you’re at. Start there. It makes a huge difference. If it all goes to shit, you will have built relationships that matter.

Scales are important. You can make anything look extreme by manipulating the x or y axis.

Will you explain what you mean?

Is it rent strike or necessity to prioritize immediate essentials because they can’t afford anything else?
