Worrying about unpaid rent after suicide is peak capitalism.
I mean, it does spread awareness about it harmful effects and how to recognize them.
I’d say thats a good to tshirt to have.

You should probably add /s to that, hah.

It’s a for profit ad company making a “privacy first browser”.
Thinking for literaly a second about that sentence should tell you all you need to know.

So this is the thing I’ll eventually end up in jail for bypassing. I coul’ve sworn it would be drugs.
Oh well.

Any recommendations? My only experience with defcon is through recordings of the talks from there, and they’ve always been phenomenal, and some videos from the events like various CTFs. Never really looked into it more. I think I also saw a documentary a few years ago that was pretty sick.

The algorithm is probably made to maximize the time you spend on the platform, and is really good at it. (I mean, just look how good are ML algorithms on text -> picture, and add to it that the algorithm that does your info -> engagement has decades of data and training on billions of people).
My theory is that it has misaligned, because it turned out that radicalizing people into right-wing bullshit will glue them to the social network very effectively, so it just started to do that. It makes sense - once you start spewing right-wing bullshit, it will probably isolate you from your IRL friends, you will have an echo chamber on the social network, and it is made to sound like some kind of deep truth no one else knows.
You getting left-wing content might be simply because it would not be efficient to try to convert you, so the algorithm is trying something else that’s more effective on the (minority?) of people like you.

Defcon is my biggest regret about the whole “US going to shit” situation. I’m from Europe, and I was planning to eventually attend, but there’s no way I’m going there until USA gets their shit together, which I suspect won’t be during my lifetime at this point.
They should move it to Europe, especially for this kind of event, I’d suspect that for a lot of attendees and speakers, who tend to be pretty anti-systemic, going into US safely at this point is not an option.

Remember that (I think) C++ race condition in RTG software, that killed people with something like 0.0001% probability and it was a huge deal and a reason to immediately retire the devices (or maybe just fix the bug, the point is that in medical, it’s super important to have a high success chance)?
I’m sure AI doing diagnosis will be able to get to a higher success chance, lol.
EDIT: From a quick search, it looks like mis-diagnosis chance in doctors is around 10%. I still don’t think AI can do better.

I highly recommend looking into Matrix Ansible Deploy, has an amazing documentation and actually works robustly. It will make the whole process of hosting it way easier, I only needed to change like 5 config values, give Ansible the SSH key for my server, and then basically run “just setup-all” from a Ansible docker.

It’s extremely easy, the Matrix ansible deploy project is very simple to use (with at least basic tech literacy), is very well documented and as far as I’ve seen in the past few years of using it do deploy and update my Matrix instance - it’s also very robust. I haven’t seen it fail a single time, which tends to be a problem with larger Docker/Ansible projects.
I’m paying 7$ a month for a cheap server on Hetzner, you also need a domain name, and the whole setup took like an hour.

I had no idea, and this hurts. I have a few, but fond, memories about DeviantArt when I had a short phase on highschool where I was drawing for a bit (which was more than 10 years ago). It didn’t last long, but DeviantArt was a large part of it.
Hearing they are commiting to AI art - THE platform for actual artists (at least it was, 10 years ago), who AI hurts the most, is insane. That’s pure betrayal. I hate this.

Unless I’m mistaken, this mostly depends on software/os you install.
A RPI with OpenWRT will be secured in exactly the same way as a router with OpenWRT and a laptop with OpenWRT. (At least I think so, I vaguely remember hearing about some Intel CPU vulnerabilities, but I don’t think there’s anything remote).
Power draw will be the main problem, along with more limited range because of the strength of the WiFi card.

I’d say that’s because here on Lemmy, we already don’t give a fuck about and wouldn’t touch Chrome or Edge with a ten foot pole, but some of us trusted Mozzila, which is now starting to do dumb AI shit. And having your trust broken hurts.
Astroturfing would not be recommending LibreWolf as an alternative.
If you look into alternatives, Brave is one that’s usually mentioned but there’s always someone quickly posting all of the dumb shit they did.
How does IronFox compare to LibreWolf?
Am dumb, missed the “for android” part.

My absolutely favorite take about art is the one from the edge of the 19->20th century, where they got obsessed about art having to be absolutely separated from reality, to be even worth considering, since that would only taint it, and just be perfect.
So in that case, I have no issues with separating the art from the artist. Or, since they also tried to make art out of their lives (the whole dandy thing), which made basically professional posers, I also don’t mind separating morality/reality from the artists and viewing their life as art. For example, Motley Crue were extremely bad people to be around, but their lifestyle was portrayed well enough that it does sound kinda fun (as long as you don’t actually live like that in reality), so I don’t judge and kind of appreciate them trying.
On the other hand, if someone is a dick as an artist without their behavior being refined enough to pass as an art/pose/dandyism, I make sure to not give them any money whatsoever, or promote their products, and just shittalk and laugh at them. Even if their actuall art is good, which I will probably enjoy, but will definitely not pay for.
Is it a good take on the question that makes sense? Probably not, but it does work for me.

I think I know who killed him.
By 11, he was programming on his own—a skill he used to playfully torment his friends. One remembers Balaji’s idea of a middle-school prank: writing code that deleted a friend’s Skyrim save file.

What would be a good alternative? I refuse to support this. Thankfully, I have my own domain, so anything where I can use it would be great, and moving shouldn’t be that hard. Bonus points if I can use wildcards, or at least have a few emails, like spam@mydomain and other.
Oh, and it has to support “+” emails, such as mail+whatever@mydomain.com

Isn’t the OpenAI one they offer the same one as the one provided at https://chatgpt.com/ without login? So probably something not as impactful.
Or do they share their unlimited subscription?
Good that it’s decentralized and people can just move on to another provider, since this one is doing this, haha, right?
