Yes, I am a design professional. Although I use Affinity rather than Adobe wherever I can, since i own the licence in perpetuity; but that isn’t Linux compatible either. The only AI tool I use is content-aware selection for masking. I don’t use genAI at all.

Since design software can include metadata in exported files, it’s also wise to use legally registered software so that my clients aren’t exposed to legal issues.

I’ve been looking at Linux for several years now, and this is the sole reason why I can’t leave Windows behind yet, because as you say: random issues with compatibility and troubleshooting.

So it bothers me whenever I investigate this and people suggest clearly inadequate ‘alternatives’ like GIMP or tell me I should just switch anyway. Anybody that implies I could do my job with GIMP clearly isn’t informed enough to actually answer my question.

Ditched gaming chairs, got an ergonomic office chair with several adjustment points.

It’s mesh seat and back, so its breathable in summer, gentle and supportive. I sit upright with no back pain. I lock it in place upright if I’m not using the armrests (eg: controller). Comfortable enough you quickly forget its even there, which is what you actually want in your practical furniture.

Every ‘gaming’ chair I’ve used cost almost as much, was a sticky pleather mess that flaked within months, pneumatics shot within a year, weird ‘racecar’ leaning back, fucked up my neck. But hey, at least it was in garish pointless colours? (Also, fuck those chairs that have the little ‘edges’, are they supposed to cup me in my seat Luke a cot? Because they get in the way).

I will never game in a gaming chair again. Quality ergonomic office chairs are DESIGNED for sitting in for hours at a time, and it shows. I’ve converted several others now.

Sponsors maybe? Adding features because somebody influential wants them to be there. Either for money (like shovelware) or soft power (strengthening ongoing business partnerships)

Moat of the teams I see hiring designers are still using Adobe, and printshops take .ai files. But most of the solo designers I know use Affinity, and I’ve heard of one (albeit small) team that has swapped to Affinity for their whole team.

Affinity was just bought by Canva so idk how it might evolve over time, or if v3 will make compromises I don’t agree with. But I got v1 during Covid, loved it, converted to v2 as soon as it was available, still love it. Using all of them on the same file in the same window feels amazing.

Another downside is that designers rarely make asset packs for Affinity. But I’m pretty sure Affinity is able to import brush pack formats from one of the other big names, just not sure which (likely Adboe’s .abr)

I don’t like painting in Photo though, but that might be because I’m so used to Krita, which is designed for illustration in the first place. (They’re great, I might donate to them again actually)

I use Affinity Suite for work. Paid for it once, have it forever. Free updates until new editions, which are discounted if you own an older edition. Buy it for one platform (Windows), that’s a license for that edition of any other platform too. AND they regularly go on special, often to 50% off.

It doesn’t have AI content generation, but it does a few things Adobe doesn’t - like being able to use Photo and Designer from INSIDE Publisher, seamless like its a single program!

I don’t generally do that to ‘weird’ numbers, I usually get closer to multiples of 5, 9, 10, or 11.

But a computer stores information differently. Perhaps it moves closer to numbers with simpler binary addresses.

The only people who care about that shit are common folk. Tesla is still doing well because those who care about money still think he’s a tech genius that will invent the next great idea - robots, AGI, space colonies - and investing in/high evaluations of Tesla is investing in Elon.

Elon’s feelings might be hurt if commoners reject him, but he’s still going to have plenty of friends and opportunities. Once you’re wealthy, your social circle stops being about other personal values and become entirely about money and power. Which he still has plenty of.
