My non techsavy mother has been using Linux mint for about 4 months now without problems after decades of windows. She’s been retired for years.
Just saying, it’s possible. It’s even quite painless.

I like the idea. But vnc helps with troubleshooting because you can see their screen and walk them through steps so they won’t have to call you again. Thats much harder without visuals because quickly everything becomes “this thing over there”, frequently changing frame of reference.

I’ve heard you can’t use banking apps on graphene os, how do you get around that? And are there any other trade offs that you have to make for more privacy?

They should, but that won’t happen. If we’re lucky, there will be some sort of reconciliation process. Most likely a few people will lose their jobs, if even. I don’t have high hopes for a quick recovery of democracy the US, the dismantling has been going on for too long.

More likely Jane registers a SIM using her ID. She then sells it to Sally, who uses it to scam people online.
That would be my reading of that sentence. I’m just not clear if they propose to criminalise both Jane‘s and Sally‘s acts.

What if they get your laptop and your USB key then

Just don’t do it in Germany or you’ll end up paying a lot more

I now see the following: „Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)“
I’m in Europe. Yes, there’s a version per country (or at least there are multiple versions), but this change is also made for places that will continue to call it Gulf of Mexico. Its annoying.

What I don’t get about seedboxes: you give the provider both your personal data as well as show them what you’re doing illegally. That seems like a bad idea. What am I missing?

What does it do? Could you explain?

Did you read the article?
Breaking up monopolies is a good thing, and Google arguably holds too much power. Chromium is being used in 70% of browsers, and the decision how to implement and develop web standards are all in the hand of one for profit company, which had little interest in keeping things open and accessible (and private).
A quote from this Register article sums it up nicely:
What we are forced to assume in turn is that Chrome is built by the professional developers working for an ad agency with the primary goal of building a web browser that serves the needs of other professional developers working for the ad agency’s prospective clients.
Only thing I use Google for is Maps, and by now that would be easy to replace.

Sure, that’s a fair opinion. I just don’t share it. I wouldn’t have known about this video in the first place. Also I don’t care to use AI summaries.
Coincidentally I was also a fan of the described functionality on batteries and I have used it gladly and without hurting myself. So that clearly makes me different from the vast majority of people here in the comments.
I may have been just as happy with the original article the video is based on, who knows. But since that wasn’t shared here I preferred this one over the video.

Tbf I hate watching videos, so I found it useful.
It’s okay to say lazy. Not everything is ADHD. You’re just lazy.

If only there was a way to look at the actual study, but oh no
