It’s a two step process: a majority of the House must vote to impeach, then the Senate has a trial where you need a two-thirds majority to convict and remove them from office. House Democrats actually impeached Trump twice in his first term when they had the majority (once for blackmailing Ukraine, and again after the January 6th attack), but Republicans in the Senate blocked conviction.
Right now, Republicans have the majority in both the House and the Senate, so there’s not even a chance of impeachment, much less conviction.

“Slash” wrist.

One of these days AI skeptics will grasp that spelling-based mistakes are an artifact of text tokenization, not some wild stupidity in the model. But today is not that day.

What are you talking about? Yang dropped out before the CA primary, and Harris dropped out the December before the first primary happened. She wasn’t even on the ballot.

At first I thought the quoted text was just him having ChatGPT write his tweets for him. But then I clicked through and saw the video of him actually speaking it to the camera. He was probably just reading it off a screen, but seeing a dead-eyed person earnestly parroting ChatGPTese like that was one of the creepiest things I’ve seen this year.

He has statutory emergency authority which can be checked by Congress if abused, except, what Congress?
(Also the tariffs are enforced by CBP, an executive agency.)

Might be your settings. When I flip the front page to “Active” most of the posts have hundreds of comments (though I prefer setting it to “Top Six Hours”).

To be fair, that’s all they have to go on. If a picture’s worth a thousand words, how many pages is a lifetime (or even a childhood) of sight and sound?

I feel like a good test of any supposed AGI would be to hook it up to a feed of a classic 3D platformer like Mario 64, give it input control, and see how long it takes to progress through the game. We’re seeing sparks of this with Claude Plays Pokemon, but any self-respecting superintelligence (or even human-equivalent) should be more than capable of learning the control scheme, navigating the 3D environment, solving puzzles, and generally playing through as competently as any 10-year-old seeing the game for the first time.
I feel like doing that automatically would just encourage instances to defederate if their larger communities didn’t like the cut of another instance’s jib. The culture clash would be harder to tolerate if content were mixed by default like that.
Maybe an easier way for end users to do it themselves? Like making a feed of multiple communities under one topic.

I could see them maybe using a custom version of Deepseek for that second tier. Could be a boon for them if the inference costs are a lot lower.

More accurately, it traps any web crawler, including regular search engines and benign projects like the Internet Archive. This should not be used without an allowlist for known trusted crawlers at least.

“Goodbye”

He wasted that for 2 years
Willful ignorance of everything passed in 2021-22 (and despite incredibly narrow margins) does not mean it didn’t happen.
While anything that gets people off Twitter is good, I’m sorely unimpressed by those artists who “had to” to patronize the racist transphobic neo-Nazi hellhole “because my audience is there”… until Musk’s policies happened to offend their own personal interests, by requiring training for their AI. Countless models trained on all public images already exist, jumping ship won’t prevent their work from being scraped elsewhere, and frankly, any one image or even portfolio will contribute virtually nothing to the result, so quitting in protest is largely symbolic. But so many peoples drew the line at that, and not at Musk making “cis” a slur, or protecting child pornographers, or boosting white supremacist supremacy theories. It’s really disappointing to see.

This might be more of a blogosphere-era thing I guess. Even when most people blogging did it for pleasure rather than work, it was always considered polite to “hat tip” (h/t) the source of a given link, if you happened to find it on someone else’s site.

When you share something cool, link back to the original creator or where you found it from.
Even if there was a Proton-like way to reliably emulate Android software, you’ve still got the device attestation problem that means most major banking and security apps won’t work. And hardly anyone is going to either want to give up those apps or have to carry around a separate dedicated phone just for them.
