This is the nightmare scenario for companies doing open source software. Regardless of how OnlyOffice behaves and their russian ties - other companies forking the whole codebase, removing the name and selling it is something that will prevent others from going the FOSS route
It’s sad to see how browser manufacturers have been treating RSS for a while. Back in the day your Firefox would show you that a page has an RSS feed. You were able to click on it, see what was in there in human readable, not cryptic-XML style format, and you were able to subscribe to it. Then you had a nice little bookmark showing you everything this page had posted recently. RSS is a great technology and it really really sucks how Big Tech has tried to kill it.
That really is the best opportunity for China to take Taiwan. Wait a little bit longer until stockpiles are empty and ground troops are deployed and then strike while the USA is occupied
Let’s be honest. The fediverse will also have a huge bot problem soon. We kind of have this right now, but if you look a little bit further in the future, when we maybe come a little bit more relevant, spammers and scammers and all those propagandists will also come here. I suspect that they’re already here.
Currently we have no protection at all. You can setup an instance, federate and start with your federated vote manipulation. Our human moderators can’t keep up with bots posting spam to their community and we are totally helpless against LLM bots pushing some agenda.
That happens a lot. There are a lot of people doing open zoom meetings and webinars. So you might have a webinar about “how to install solar on your roof”, organized by some organisation or a public zoom meeting for some online community. The link will get posted on socials and everybody can hop into the call and listen to it. Some other examples are in the article.

We know that recruitment standards are quite low for ICE. So you can guess that every cartel will be trying to get their own people in there. Do you know who will not be bothered by cops while smuggling drugs? Your ICE convoy with masked gunmen. And if you take over security on an airport, that’s even better.

Yeah, that’s a problem. So even if you want to search your local newspaper, you won’t be able to because of bot protection. Your crawler will be blocked. You also can’t put the whole of Reddit or even Lemmy in your search index.
If abortion is banned in your state, you have to get creative to get rid of unwanted children ;)
It makes sense - a self-contained device can be circumvented. A connected solution is much, much harder to fool
Time to start self hosting
There is simply no usable self-hosted search engine. There are some projects like Yacy or Searxng, but they do not have their own index. And having your own self-hosted index is kind of impossible because you need to save the whole of the web on your own devices to be able to search it.
The fact that a multi-billion dollar company publishes a post like this shows how bad things have gotten.

That also means that all those apps which are embedding those location trackers are illegal in Europe and other countries. There is no way for someone to give his informed consent to sell his location data to the fucking FBI just by clicking a button.
