OP is paying for the ad-free tier, so instead of ads they had a black screen during the break. To describe this as Netflix “adding unskippable ads on premium plan” is just wrong, there are literally no ads being displayed.

I can’t remember what the default client is like, but Nictone+ sorts by user speeds (by default). So unless people are looking for specific encodings, they’re always going to download from the fastest user (the top result). If you’re not among the fastest and/or don’t have a niche library, you’re not going to see much traffic.

I agree. The connection between all of these things is that they involve relationships. Humans are social animals that can suffer from loneliness and AI companies are exploiting this in a similar way. Loneliness is a common thread throughout all of these AI psychosis suicide cases.

It’s as if getting into sideloading, piracy, and modding made me feel true online freedom and I can’t wait or imagine the feeling I’m going to have when I start self hosting.

Pirate and put the saved subscription fees towards song and album purchases (from Bandcamp, for example) is the best way. It’s the same with YouTube Premium - use a third party client to block the ads and save the subscription fee to donate to channels directly. It annoys me when people try to claim the moral high ground for paying subscription fees to big companies when they’re actually just part of the problem.

It’s interesting how music streaming has become so dominant in the public consciousness now that the first thought of new pirates is “how can I download from a streaming service?” rather than just downloading music through the same P2P mechanisms that have existed for decades. It’s like music just doesn’t exist outside of streaming for younger generations.

Has that URL been confirmed as official? It was initially setup as a mirror of the original (with different donation info) and the main page says it was last updated in 2019.
