Amazon app store actually was just killed for non-Amazon devices a couple months ago.

I wasn’t speaking about awareness of the existence of tracking. I meant how to safely disable it.

My current vehicle is just about 20 years old, so I’ve never had one connected to the net before. I’m dreading the day this thing finally dies, and I have to find one that doesn’t do that, or figure out how to kill the connection without affecting functionality.

That makes two of us, and this just reinforced that notion.

Which is absurd. While deployed, there’s nowhere to relax and be themselves like every other human needs to do regularly. The bases should be considered “home” while off duty.

I don’t use the Pay Store version, so I don’t know what you’re running into there. May not matter though, as I remembered after commenting that you have to have “Wireless Debugging” enabled, which requires the hidden-by-default “Developer Options” to be enabled - something I’ll bet the Parental Controls disallows anyway.

Install Shizuku to give the apps of your choice elevated rights. I use Hail from F-Droid, but it looks like this is a similar app on Play that’s used via Shizuku to “freeze” apps that you can’t remove. It keeps them from running and hides them from your app drawer.

OP said they can’t install from anywhere but the Play Store.

There needs to be a massive FYI campaign to inform the average citizen of how to do that.

I think the practice really took off with the arrival of AI & people not wanting their stuff harvested for training it. My personal feeling might be considered rather defeatist, but I don’t see the point in doing that because they’re going to feed whatever they can get their hands on to the AI beast, and so I’d rather have at least some miniscule influence over what it regurgitates to others.

Now, if we can just get the robber barons and their wholely-owned politicians out of the way of progress…
