Speaking of Google: has anybody noticed how unbearably slow Google sites are lately?

I almost never use Google search anymore. But I hit it the other day because I couldn’t find some really obscure kernel error message, and the damn thing froze Firefox. And it did so repeatedly and consistently after restarting the browser, until I killed almost all Google scripts in uBO.

The same “experience” can be felt on any Google site, like Map.

  • Plenty of places are disputed because they have natural resources or sit in strategically interesting locations.
But plenty of other place have nothing special to offer and are just disputed for stupid nationalist reasons.

Kashmir is one of the latter. As always, the ones who suffer from the nationalist nonsense are the everyday Kashmiris trying to live a normal life.

  • For me, pretty much all of Bob Dylan’s production. I know he’s supposed to be a Nobel-Prize-winning genius singer and songwriter, and everybody is in total awe of his talent, but… honestly, I’ve seen people sing better and play the guitar better in the metro.

I don’t dislike Bob Dylan, and his lyrics were a powerful product of his time. But he’s always seems very meh to me as a musician. I just don’t get the hype.

  • …now

You have to be very patient and have an awful lot of storage space - and bet that the junk you’re storing will be worth something some day - to even bother keeping crappy stuff in any large quantity to turn a profit in the future when the stuff is still crappy and not worth a damn now.

The reason 386s are getting rare is because nobody in their right mind made that bet when they were still around and completely deprecated.

The only person I met who made a similar bet and won big money was a Brit who bought 6 Jaguar E-Types sight-unseen when they came out, and put them in storage for 30 years (prepared professionally for long-term storage too). When those cars came on the market, brand new with zero miles on the clock, they sold for millions, the guy bought a nice house in Hampshire and retired in comfort.

He told me he just knew that model would be a highly desirable classic the minute he saw a picture, and almost bankrupted his family to buy them as an investment. Ballsy.

  • I just tried it: I had to modify the main .py file so it uses Webkit 4.1 instead of 4.0 (that’s the version I have installed) and it works. But for some reason, photo spheres are only displayed properly if there was no Eye of Gnome instance already running: if there’s already an image up, the second photo sphere remains displayed as a flat photo.

Also, the pan / tilt mouse movements are a bit scratchy. It’s probably because the engine underneath is Javascript.

Other than that, it works well. Thanks!

What I meant was Blender is very bad at degrading gracefully to work fairly well with older OpenGL versions. As soon as your stuff is just a tad older than Blender supports, that’s it. You’re left out in the cold.

I have very modest Blender needs (mostly I need to rework prosthesis models for 3D-printing), my GPU is fairly recent but very low spec, yet sufficient for what I need. But the driver only implements OpenGL 3.0, so essentially I’m stuck with Blender 4.0.2 if I want to make use of hardware acceleration.

Any higher version and Blender simply pukes out a message saying that my GPU doesn’t have the features it requires. Or I have to degrade to software GL, which is not acceptable.

Blender has always been like that. The Blender developers assume their audience is mostly professionals with endless resources to throw at their software project, and they just don’t give a rat’s ass about making their stuff usable for people with older hardware.

  • As you mentioned, his idiotic MAGA followers have the memory of a goldfish, and Trump bet on them forgetting his promise like they forgot all his other promises.

All the orange utan normally had to do is to declare that something will happen in two weeks, then two weeks later, everybody has forgotten.

But not with the Epstein thing. For some reason, the MAGA morons seem to latch onto this pedo thing a lot harder than onto anything else their cult leader threw at them and they don’t let go.

  • Those of us blessed with common sense know that the POTUS is a fucking pedo and Epstein’s top co-conspirator. But now the evidence is starting to circle around him real close!

What’s most amazing about it is, with any other POTUS, this would have been career-ending a thousand times over already. Remember Clinton’s BJ? But no: for some unfathomable reason, the raging orange pedo is still president.

Shame on the GOP elected officials for allowing that. If it was truly the party of family values and Christian value they claim it is, they would not allow Trump to soil the White House a minute longer.
