I would classify a municipal public meeting as a public event. In my municipality they do a pledge at school committee and council meetings; both of those are public and it’s not an uncommon practice.

I don’t think the point OP is making is not that all/most conspiracy theories are real, it’s that structural critique that used to be marginalized is becoming mainstream because reality is making it undeniable.
