  • The global economical system with its built in assumption of infinite growth is on a collision course with the material realities of the world. So it will either change drastically, or collapse. The latter seems much more likely.

I think cracks will form and new, more local, decentralized and equitable frameworks will sprout from those cracks as people help each other, because the system can’t or wont help them.

  • I’m not quite as concerned. Images don’t report back by themselves like a link that has the sharing info appended to it does, so the platform (or a crawler reading that platform) would need to actively read those watermarks. Also when someone copies and shares the image again, the watermark stays the same and now they don’t know if the image was shared from the original source or the first sharer, unless that platform rewrote the watermark to remain unique. So a waterproof chain of attributions would need all the platforms involved cooperating with each other.

  • I’m not certain that it isn’t attached. The fabric might be folded in underneath the badge in a way that makes it seem like the badge isn’t completely attached. The shoulder is a place where the fabric will fold, especially if its folding is constrained by a stiff badge at one spot, causing more folding right next to it.

Alternatively it could be that the badge is partially off, with one side having detached due to the stresses of the fabric folding around under it, or it could be on purpose to preserve mobility in the shoulder. The shoulder is also a prime place to snag on something and for the badge to be partially torn off. This is an unfortunately common occurence with student overalls here…

Unless you mean that the badge is in the wrong place alltogether, I don’t see any glaring issue here.

  • My job is to do weather observations every half an hour, or when the situation changes drastically enough to warrant an update. I used to get a bit stressed out about noticing the clock approach one of the routine times while not at work (because that’s when I haven’t been keeping an eye on the sky so oh shit now I gotta figure it out fast!), but I think I’ve gotten mostly out of that pavlovian response. Many of my colleagues say that they also get this. But the phone alarm (a manufacturer default) that goes off at that time as a reminder definitely triggers it. Luckily I’ve only heard it like once or twice outside of work.

  • Ok, well in that case I guess we should just keep looking at those ugly as shit pixar-ish chipmunks. Maybe their cutesy faces will motivate someone of the 5k monthly visitors here to become the next unabomber who finally defeats Peter Thiel.

It’s just a single png. If somebody kicks up their feet and stops caring after getting the mods to change it, then do you honestly think that they could’ve gotten anything significant done in the first place?

  • how pretty the sky looks when I happen to notice it.

I second this one with every fibre of my being. Look at the sky every chance you get. Clouds are beautiful.

Photography also helped me learn to keep my eyes open for all the pretty sights around. There’s a lot more of those waiting to be witnessed out there than one might think.
