  • Finally, Motorola produces a panoply of devices for LEA, if you think a for profit company will not leverage their deal with GOS to sell a bypass device to law enforcement agencies and have the monopoly on that market you are out of your goddamn mind.

You realise that Motorola Solutions (that make stuff for law enforcement agencies) and Motorola Mobility (that make phones) are two completely seperate companies?

Motorola Mobility is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lenovo.

They have nothing to do with eachother beyond just the brand. Motorola Mobility dont even own the rights to the name or logo. They have to license the brand from Motorola Solutions.

  • considering Curve failed my ID check and refuse to reply to my emails trying to sort it out.

I had this exact problem with Curve on graphene back in September. Curve didn’t even ask for an ID and the app just kept saying my ID (the one it didn’t ask for) couldn’t be verified.

But a few weeks ago I tried Curve again, in exploit compatibility mode, and this time it worked. And NFC payments are working for me.

Might be worth trying it again after some time has passed?

  • if linux aims for just legit users then forget ever having userbase from africa, south america. or any place generally poor.

Linux is a kernel that lets software talk to hardware. It doesn’t care about where it’s users are from or what their financial situation is.

    This is not Linux’s problem.

  • On Graphene OS there is a duress pin you can set which will wipe the phone immediately if it’s entered. Although I haven’t been able to get it to work in a way that i could open different profiles automatically by entering a different pin/fingerprint.

    BUT.

My old Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 phone could do it. The phone had a “secure space” which was a separate environment with its own apps. I could assign different unlock fingerprints to it. So one finger would open the default environment and the other finger would open the “secure space”, and it worked seamlessly without any delays in unlocking.

I wouldn’t choose Xiaomi for privacy obviously but it’s just an example that shows it’s possible.
