Then my job here is done!

Then my job here is done!

False equivalency.
If you were going on a 10 day hike to the most remote location on earth, would you bring the most unreliable device you could find, or something you can count on?

I disagree

If it’s on the ship, it’s associated with the mission. Windows has a very high habit of barfing so over itself, as is evidenced by this article. It’s bonkers to me that they chose to use Windows for anything at all.
Jensen? Is that you?
But then where does that money come from?

Also Red Star OS

Let the Dandy Lions grow like we do in Europe
No, Dandy Lions crowd out native North American species and result in less diverse ecosystems, which is bad.

This guy has completely lost the plot. I don’t think it’s possible to be even more disconnected from reality.

It was a weak attempt to keep relevance when faced against Gemini and Claude. But it’s completely unnecessary now that OpenAI has contracted with the government. They get all that sweet tax payer money and get to repurpose a ton of GPUs making stupid videos to supporting that new gov contract.

I think maybe ‘you just don’t get’ how to support your position.
Maybe I’m just frustrated with the discussion. Plenty of other people have explained the position very eloquently, but it still falls on deaf ears.

PC gamer hijacks your browser history to show more articles when you try to back out of the site.
I HAAAAAATE this so bloody much. It’s such a gross feeling when your device literally stops working the way it’s supposed to work just because a website wants to shove more of their crap at you.

By “these people”, I mean people who just don’t get it.

It’s like talking to a wall with these people.

Your real name and location data have been stored in UNIX/Linux for over 60 years.
IF you entered that info. And it wasn’t being used by applications to enable surveillance laws. It’s a false equivalency.

I’m running Linux, so I’m also completely unaffected by this.

I think it’s blatantly obvious we weren’t born on January 1970, year 1. January only has 30 days, not 1970.

I’ll believe that if and when they actually force me to upload identification to prove that my birthday really is 1970-01-01 and my name really is Nunya Bissnis
It’ll be too late by that point. Way way way too late.
No, I do understand. I still think it’s a bad decision. It’s not just about how critical to the mission it is. It’s useful as a form of communication with family and entertainment. In that context I do think it’s “important”. And also in that context, I would want something reliable.
