I do not envy those jurors, that sounds very hard to rule on.

For space/astronomy news, I recommend Doctor Becky https://youtube.com/@drbecky and Fraser Cain. https://youtube.com/@frasercain
Becky handles mostly astronomy news, Fraser handles mostly space flight news. Both are pretty decent at staying more objective.

Depends if I can get my phone unlocked and call an ambulance or not. Unassisted I’m probably bleeding out, but if I can get to a hospital then I can probably make it. I do wonder how much skin I’ll even have left at this point, considering the sheer number of cuts, scrapes and burns I’ve had, but blood loss should be the only potentially fatal problem needing to be dealt with immediately.
Big if, though, my hands would be a busted up mess. Operating a touchscreen would be a pretty big ask, and I probably don’t have a lot of time fully conscious. I’d also have several broken bones preventing me from going anywhere to find help.

If you’re not used to winter driving conditions, keep your speed to about half of the posted speed limit, AND allow about double the normal distance for any braking you have to do. Give yourself a little over twice the normal amount of time it’d take you to drive somewhere.
This is generous, and will generally keep you safe on the road even if you’re unaccustomed to the conditions. Ice can still cause (sometimes unavoidable) problems even with these extra allowances, but if you’re going slowly and giving the extra distance, any accidents will be at low speed and very minor.

attributed the incident in part to a lack of proper Holocaust education and historical context on hate symbols, such as the swastika. “We have absolute faith that if the district takes actual measures to teach students the right lessons about being inclusive and anti-hate, that Jews are a minority that deserve compassion and understanding and deserve to be equal to everyone else in this education system, then that would be a huge step towards tomorrow’s society,” she said.
No, I’m afraid not. They’ve likely been preemptively inoculated against lessons by anti-intellectual sentiment, lessons will not cut it. They won’t trust anything that might be attributable to a “deep state”.
You need a more natural, more grounded style of communication if you want to have a chance.

A Trump ally using a bunch of funding from the Middle East to buy out an American company well-known for producing children’s cartoons? Where’d their Islamophobia go?
If we had a real propaganda arm and a complete lack of morals, we could exploit this.

Diane wrote letters to Idaho’s governor and to Trump demanding Binod’s return. She was “disappointed” by the governor’s response – a form reply – and noted that the White House never replied
This reminds me of those videos you’d see in the early parts of the Russo-Ukrainian War, where some Russians would make some sort of appeal to Putin about some problem, as if he actually cared about some random soldiers on the frontline.
I find it useful to remember that entertainment products are designed to be both understandable and fun, where real life was not designed to be understandable and fun.
With that in mind, no, I would not.

200 yards would be a pretty normal deer hunting shot, remember that people use scopes. Something actually impressive would be more like a mile. (1760 yards)

When the Generative Agents system was evaluated for how “believably human” the agents acted, researchers found the AI versions scored higher than actual human actors.
That’s a neat finding. I feel like there’s a lot to unpack there around how our expectations are formed.

An NBC News Stay Tuned Poll from April found that nearly a third of U.S. adults under 30 are feeling lonelier and more anxious about the future than their elders.
This is interesting. Loneliness and anxiety are two different things, but I strongly suspect that anxiety can cause additional loneliness, due to how it discourages risk-taking behavior. Let’s make no mistake, going out and connecting with people can come across as a risky behavior.

You’d also need to make it immune to the various antibiotics that work on it. Otherwise it’s not particularly difficult to treat with modern medicine.

Exactly. It’s sort of like a massively scaled up example of the blind man and the elephant.

Yeah I caught that too, I’d be curious to know more about what specifically they meant by that.
Being able to link all of the words that have a similar meaning, say, nearby, close, adjacent, proximal, side-by-side, etc and realize they all share something in common could be done in many ways. Some would require an abstract understanding of what spatial distance actually is, an understanding of physical reality. Others would not, one could simply make use of word adjacency, noticing that all of these words are frequently used alongside certain other words. This would not be abstract, it’d be more of a simple sum of clear correlations. You could call this mathematical framework a universal language if you wanted.
Ultimately, a person learns meaning and then applies language to it. When I’m a baby I see my mother, and know my mother is something that exists. Then I learn the word “mother” and apply it to her. The abstract comes first. Can an LLM do something similar despite having never seen anything that isn’t a word or number?

Predicting the next word vs predicting a word in the middle and then predicting backwards are not hugely different things. It’s still predicting parts of the passage based solely on other parts of the passage.
Compared to a human who forms an abstract thought and then translates that thought into words. Which words I use has little to do with which other words I’ve used except to make sure I’m following the rules of grammar.

Impressive piece of journalism.

Good. He’s overusing his “witch hunt” rhetoric, in a situation where it’s unusually easy for anybody to verify the details for oneself.

I wonder how tempted he was to hit that “report spam” button.

or maybe “national security adviser,”
lol
Credit where credit is due, to reddit for making them go to court over it.
